Ricoh GR

surprise to see this, I have shot quite a lot of pictures with GR, never experience such incident. Does anyone any similar problem ?

I use the GXR M module for so long, and I hardly see it. Moire yes, but until it's rainbow colors - nope.

In playback mode, you can edit your JPEGs using the "COLOR MOIRE CORRECTION" to "off, weak, ..., strong". Maybe Kevinty can try this out and see if there's any difference?

Repeatable. Please don't tell me I got a super sharp negative AA filter GR that exaggerates the moire! :(

Hi, you shot this with JPEG? Can try in-camera adjustments - under the menu : Color moire correction? See if it actually works? Thanks in advance.

Heres my customisation for the GR

Fn1: Snap distance
Fn2: AF > Snap

MY1 (For day time street shoot): Tav, Raw+, 1/250, f/8, display off, snap distance 2m.

MY2 (For low light / indoor street shoot): Tav, Raw+, 1/160, f/2.8, display off, snap distance 1m.

MY3 (For casual shoot): Av, JPG (B/W), f/4, Auto ISO

Did you shoot Jpg or raw?

If raw, maybe try another de-mosiac algo (or raw converter)
I know Raw Therapee has selectable algos. (Never explored LR3.6 to find out)

Guys,

Any luck spotting the accessories for the GR ?

Looking for the GH-3 adapter to mount filters...

Insider news? Which shop? Let us know le...
Should be available at all the authorised Ricoh dealers... unless stocks get delayed at customs again. ;)

Haha!! I think the customs officers also want to quickly clear the GR camera accessories so they could buy them at the shops this weekend!

Similar observation with me though not as bad as yours.

This was shot in RAW and processed with SilkyPix which unfortunately does not have a colour moire removal function. Yes it could be reduced substantially if the raw file is converted in-camera using the built-in colour moire removal but that's not the point. It should be removable also using the raw conversion software that's provided by Ricoh.

Just for comparison, the Nikon Coolpix A also has no AA filter. There is also greater propensity for the formation of colour moire under the right conditions but it is not as bad as that exhibited by the GR. Take for example, a 100% crop comparison of the offending portion of the ION Orchard façade by the 2 cameras...

Maybe that's the price you pay for having a sharper lens. :dunno:

I tried yesterday to replicate the issue and it seems entirely possible as painted by several members here. You can even observe the color moire on the screen.

1 observation that I have made was when I tilt it at certain angles, the moire seems lesser and the rainbow stuff isn't prominent.

Anyways, will continue to test more ...

Not a GR user, but if someone can pass me a_moire file, I can help see if using different de-mosiac algos Raw Therapee helps.

I suspect it won't since its sensor level.

Moire is pretty common for D800E Pictures.
Just use the Moire brush to take it away - Helps me quite a bit

If you want to induce it to try, just shoot fabric with the help of flash, you shd find them especially on non cotton type to fabrics from my experience
And do check them in the computer, as sometimes, it could be flash from the LCD due to its resolution

Is the adapter and wide angle converter in Singapore yet?

In yodobashi here, the adapter with hood is 4980 yen, and 21mm converter is 19800, which works out to be $64 and $255 with the rate I changed. Very tempted to get it here in Tokyo now if SG has to wait a while.....

Also, anyone has any idea if these prices will be lower in sg?

I do know both gv1 / gv2 are a steal here at sgd $230 compared to sg prices.....

In Malaysia, the set after special promo discount is S$349.

You mean GV-2 is S$230?
