Ricoh GR

Thanks Sanfong. Thanks again B3nj! Today I tried Kenko Pro1 D and Kenko Zeta without any problem. I've check the construction of my Hoya Pro1 D 49mm and believed that its design should work well, too. As long as the filter glass does not lower than its frame, it will be fine!

The manual also mentioned that the thread is designed for the cap not for the filter! With my Kenko Zeta protecting filter, when focus at infinity you will see a tiny (very small) heavy dark corner @f2.8 and it will go away @f8. When focus near close-up distance, even @f2.8 you barely see the dark corner.

The manual has clearly stated that the use of 3rd party filters can cause vignetting.

In shooting menu, there's an option to switch the ND filter to ON. That's when you selected the ND option to Manual in the setup section.

Thanks, hjbyeo.

Finally got a little time to test this GR + GW-3 converter and so far quite happy. The barrel distortion is quite low but if you are the one who shoot indoor architecture then it might be not really ideal (unless you apply barrel distortion correction in Post-Processing). The strange thing is that Ricoh don't apply any barrel distortion correction although you could select to activate the wide converter mode in Menu. The only action this wide converter mode does now is to update the EXIF information that you are shooting with 21mm lens! :bsmilie: Anyway, when this feature is there, we could expect Ricoh will allow to apply lens distortion correction in next firmware update.

This is my baby (shot by the GXR A12 50 Macro):

Nice! Should give anyone a feel of what the different focal lengths possible on the GR. ;-)

I dun have GW-3 to try, but I'm curious to find out has anyone activate 35mm mode with the wide converter mode activated too? Does is it result to be around 25mm?

I tried it yesterday but could not know exactly how wide it is. If my memory is not that bad, activate the crop mode with GW-3 is still slightly wider than 28. Can try it to night and let you know if no one has done it before yet.

@Sanfong: just to update you: if we turn on the wide converter in menu when plug the GW-3 21mm in and also turn on the 35mm crop mode, the EXIF will show 26mm and the FOV actually also wider than 28mm. So, we have actually 4 FOVs with GR: 21mm, 26mm, 28mm and 35mm.
