Ricoh GR

I also noted this also in some other GR photos posted in Japan websites, any reason technically? The lowest Q cam go hand held sharp is 1/30 Q10 a bit better only.

No particular reason from my end. But I think there might be questions where GR4 has IS and this feature is not available in GR.

Very true! so the question for me is S$390 for the GRD IV, or S$1050 GR? What's your answer?

Definitely the GR, and I don't think the actual price will be above 1k. If it does, just wait for a couple of months until the market settles down and get it at 900 plus range.

No point getting the GRD IV since the GR is out, just my opinion and suggestion.

I would actually go for the GRD4, if you already have a primary camera.

Why?

GRD4 has IS and faster by 1 stop, so in total maybe 3-4 stops advantage in preventing handheld blur. Of course you can bump iso in the GR, but u may end up comparing iso 800 of GRD4 with iso 6400 of GR for same exposure. Noise would probably be comparable? I dunno.

GRD4, being smaller sensor, has the advantage of closer macro n larger dof, which would be popular for ppl looking at this kinda form factor camera...

Image quality n dynamic range cannot be compared... But the ability to shoot raw can allow u to get images of better dynamic range and lower noise. I'll get LR4 with the $600 savings.

Most importantly, GR is not an upgrade of the GRD4. It's a completely different camera. Getting a GRD4 is like getting the best of what that product line has to offer, unless they come out with a GRD5 which really wouldn't make sense now.

Just my personal view :)

Tokyo, taken with 21mm wide angle converter

I'm definitely getting the camera with 21mm wide angle converter..
MichaelLee, since this thread is not image sharing only thread, can we just merge the other Ricoh GR thread with this? I think both has very good information, putting them together will be nice :)

thanks FW, I know you will definitely go for GR. What I don't like is it's f2.8 vs. f1.9, and no shake reduction. Will keep watching...

Trust me, I've played both side by side, no comparison even under pretty good room light :) IQ wise GR is just in a different league.

Thank you for your analysis, it certainly makes a lot of sense. The question is whether the smaller sensor can compete in term of image quality. I am not in a hurry, and believe there are people with the same question. I hope more people will share their opinions. There is no right or wrong, at the end of the day, it's about which one is more suitable for your needs. There are surely pros and cons for both.

Called CP today... one of the guy says likely next week...
