congrats, was my choice too, until i went to shop and they did not order for me.

where and how much you bought?

bought from MS Color (they brought in some stocks liao). It was $5xx with a 1GB card and case ;p

yes, just went to buy sigma 10-20mm lens. saw it on display. enjoy your 7.1x zoooooommmmm;)

Put up some test shots here: http://mpenza.clubsnap.org/gallery/ricoh_r4_test Pics taken from bus stop opposite Capital Square(?).

At 28mm (resized):

Pretty good details up to ISO200.

At 200mm (resized) - underexposed to show the "shadow" noise:

Noise started to creep in at ISO200 but still quite manageable vs most other compacts.

Pics taken at ISO400 and 800 can be found here: http://mpenza.clubsnap.org/gallery/ricoh_r4_test

Pics were unprocessed and taken using camera's default settings.

I was looking out for a suitable compact for a mth or 2 already... I think i might get this Ricoh Caplio R4...

Can the camera support a 2gb SD card?

from what I read, it supports max of 2GB (4GB seems to be unsupported). I didn't get a 2GB card though cos I got a 1GB card free with the camera and have some other cards lying around.

Thank you... coz the camera's own sites says 'up to 1gb' while on some sites on 'supported SD cards', it states 2gb.

Read that u bought the camera :) have fun :) did u get a brown leather case with it?

Yes, a brown leather open open type of casing was given... i'm trying to look for other type but not easy to find.

I bought the 'mystic blue' body color version of the Ricoh caplio R4. Actually prefer black but thought in term of resale value later, the blue might be better coz immediately, ppl will think it is newer.

I also saw the Caplio R40 in the shop. didn't ask abt the price though... in case i get tempted to get the more junior model... but then dun think i would, coz the 7.1x optical zoom rocks!:vhappy:

leather feels good though and have a few friends who commented that the brown casing is quite classic and stylish ;p I got the blue one too :) agree that the 7.1x wide-angle zoom rocks :)

one common things that i don't see in most pics are the blue sky... :(
can anyone take a sample of landscape(buildings/trees) with blue sky n clouds. :)

I might get one later today, but for my father-in-law as father's day gift. Either R4 or the FX01. I'll check back to contribute to this thread if it's still floating after he comes back from his Guangzhou trip.

will try to during a trip coming up ;p depends on the weather of course.

btw, I've added a few pics to show the effectiveness of the CCD stabilisation at slow shutter speeds of 1/6s (abt 2.5 stops slower than guide of 1/focal length) and 1/3s (3+ stops slower than "guide"):

I kind of prefer the FX01 screen but got the R4 cos of more things (wide-angle plus long zoom is fun) to play about ;p

Ya, Im definitely more inclined with the R4 because of the zoom range as well. My father-in-law wanted the Minolta A2, but it's out of the shelves already. Wanted it for the 28-200 and the Ricoh R4 is the closest. The slow shutter shots you added are very impressive indeed. I prefer the (posted shots showing) FX01's more dramatic colours, but lower noise of the R4. Both of which are of little consequences to my father-in-law. Sigh, making wish it'll be my own:)

colors can be enhanced easily lah, either by setting in camera or postprocessing ;p
