20D users are waiting for someone to crack and load the 30D firmware onto their 20D.. to turn on the spot metering... :)

hmmm ... focusing hardware is the same, but algor improved in 30D.....

does that mean 20D will get the firmware upgrade soon ?

Unlikely the firmware will be from Canon because it will affect their 30D sale.
Maybe have to wait for hack version.

What's wrong with the 20D anyway? If you want to upgrade, might as well go for a 1-series. That's a real upgrade to me.

I got myself a 1Ds and I think its a wonderful upgrade even though its more than 3 years old.

No wonder no announcement leaks... with all those speculations, those who know the 30D specs also dare not say. Else kenna bomb by Canon fans... hahaha

IMHO, should be 20Dn. Given similar tweaks to 1Dm2 compared to 1Dm2n.

Personally, I wouldn't be 'praising' this 30D... if everyone sings high praises then Canon seems to 'relax' in their pushing the technological envelope... must keep them on their toes... apply the 'game theory' :p

Wow! Can that really be done through firmware alone? If someone has the firmware, I dun mind voiding the warranty just to have spot metering! :D

When D60 was replaced by 10D a few years back, everyone thought the improvement aren't worth upgrading but in the end 10D proven to be much more capable than expected, and at a much more attractive price! $3.8K -> $2.8K

Look like the history repeated itself with 30D, an improved version of 20D but at an even more affordable price. Now with spot-metering and bigger buffer, the usability also improved such as ISO at 1/3 steps, more durable shutter, longer battery life, faster & better interface. Other improvement that we can't tell from the spec will be noise level, AF speed, WB and metering, it should be the same, or at least better than the 20D.

Existing 20D users may not be tempted to upgrade, but there are even more 300D, 350D, D60, 10D or film body users waiting to get a new body, and the 30D will fit the bill nicely. To these pple, 30D will be a major upgrade from their existing camera, if they are still disappointed, I am not sure what can make consumer happy, 1DsMKII at 350D price? Dream on...

Seriously, I wonder how many of us can push the capability of the camera body to the max, and found that the camera become the "limitation". If you really need anything better, there is always Canon 1-series.... as Canon users, we already have the widest range of consumer to professional bodies and lenses to choose from, and not just stuck with a few bodies with limited upgrading path.

When is this baby going to be out?
