Beautiful Pics & Beautiful Landscape

looks like misa's sg to almaty is overpriced.

where did you buy your tickets? i may go through the same agencies and plan that for 2010 next year, but probably targetting turkmenistan and uzbekistan instead.

actually i bought the tickets straight off http://www.airastana.com/ they use e-tickets just like other major airlines. wow turkmenistan... can't wait to see your photos then. i think all the visas will add up to quite a lot...

So did you meet up with Borat? :bsmilie:

This is one place that I wanna go.. Alongside with Uzbekistan.

haha the first thing many people will associate with Kazakhstan is borat :bsmilie: but actually he's a British national...

Allow me to do some Maths here..

So after deducting the air ticket fee from $2050, it should leave you with $850 for 19 days, which average out to be about $45 per day. Do you pitch your own tent or sleep in guesthouses, etc? Seems like you dont need to spend a lot on lodging.. Pls enlighten me. Tks!

yup we were on a tight budget. actually the first and last days we were kind of sleeping in the airport... average accomodation price per person per night is about $20 for the cheapest guesthouses. in almaty city - the former capital, accomodation prices were on par with international standards but we were quite lucky as we managed to find a $20 per night room at the train station and it was quite luxurious. and yup when we were out in the wild we will pitch our tents.

 love the landscapes... reminds me of an exhibit in last yr's Biennale (some propaganda film shot in some -stan country, not sure if it's the same one)

the bottom row - selling Korean Kimchi. there's a sizeable population of ethnic Koreans living in Kazakhstan. I wikipedia it n found that they are known as the Koryo-saram.

we moved around using a combination of trains, buses, private cars that ferry people who are going in the same direction as them for a fee, and some hitchiking especially in the mountainous areas. you will need a minimum of $50 per day if you choose to stay in the cheapest guesthouses that cost about $20 per night per person.

for more you can read my earlier post at http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showpost.php?p=4833462&postcount=16

nope english is rarely spoken in Kazakhstan. in fact i think we hear more mandarin than english due to the presence of some chinese immigrants, mainly from parts of western china like xinjiang.

the main language spoken is kazakh and russian. a good russian phrasebook is really important..

more photos..

Nice pictures, i love the landscape.

Lemme know the details, i'm dying for one to Uzbekistan too but seem that the onlye way I can fly is through KL which I've been getting sketchy idea on whether there is actually a flight or not. Then there is Air Tashkent, I think. I've had my Central Asia guidebook since a year back but haven't been able to put together the plan.

What settings are used to capture the stars? What lens are you using? so nice..!

thanks :) the settings were f4.5, 27 seconds exposure time, iso of 3200. i used these settings for test shots for the single long exposure shot. probably the cold temperatures helped to cool the sensor and gave me a surprisingly noise-free image.

i was using the tamron 17-50mm f2.8 lens.

Did you use the Tamron for most (all) of your shots? Good colour and sharpness.

truely amazing trips ...
