first time repairing cam and lens by nikon. seeking and need advice.

i fell and drop my cam recently. result,
3 years old D300 battery indicator showed low batt intermittently, and
3 years 17-55 lens zoom ring stiff at ard 35mm mark.

estimated quotation by nikon,
replaced lens barrel $911 (parts 822, labour 30, and gst)
replace main PCB both contact unit, DC/DC AR PCB and general servicing $337 (labor 160, parts 155, and gst)

will u go ahead?

thanks in advance.

If u are a frequent photographer, I suggest u should purchase a new camera . And ur camera is already 3 yrs . U can also purchase the camera body and repair ur lens , if ur lens is still in a good condition .(:

will u go ahead?

thanks in advance.

I will find the cheaper alternative to get the repairs done. Since the lens and the camera are already out of warranty. Cheaper repair alternatives may not be able to fix all problems... but it doesn't hurt to get them looked at and get a quote.

looking at the cost and the problem, for me, I will get the D300 repaired and serviced and learn to live the stiffness or just sell off the lens and get another one.

$337 to fix a D300 should be reasonable. A 2nd hand D300 usually cost more than $1k.
Just like what DD123 mentioned, you can still try to find a cheaper alternative ;)

$911 to fix a lens is not an easy desicion.
I noticed that the labor charge is only $30. :o Should be discounted rate.
I have cleaned that lens a few times and I charged definitely more than $30.

thanks u all who had responded, appreciated it much :)

either get a new DSLR with a kit lens or get a new lens..
