Hi guys,

I'm contemplating a jump from SLR to RF (film), but my experience with my Canonet has not been great.

I was wondering where I can go to rent myself a Leica or a Voig to try them out. Any advice would be great.

Thanks!
:)

Welcome!!!

As usual, you can try out Leica at any of the used camera shops in the Pennisula triangle area. Ben Photo, P&G and Prime etc.

For Voigtlander education, Chiif's shop is the best place to check things out!!!

Please also join us for our regular RF outings and you'll be poisoned by all the members' gears.

You might wanna share your experience with the Canonet first... Cos frankly, if u dun like some way the Canonet works, changing to a Voigtlander or Leica does little difference.

Most ppl prefer the way SLR works..and for most aspects for photography, its a more appropriate tool.. Its only the folks here that resides in the world or RFs.. for the way it works, its history, etc..

Cheers~

:bsmilie: you want to rent a Leica ? its like asking someone if you can rent his gf or wife :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

(Leica owners, take it as a compliment )

Leica poisoning has serious consequences on your personal finances. Pls be forewarned.

Serious financial poisoning? :) That's very apt I would think. :)

Anyway, just to share about what I did not like abt my Canonet.

I had difficulty focusing. The "secondary image" is very light and disappears at certain angles from the light.
I'm not sure if this is an inherent problem with RFs or just my set.
Any comments on this anyone?

Well the other complain I had was with the difficulty reading the exposure meter. But I suppose a lightmeter would settle all this.

Welcome benwal!
I suspect your focusing patch does not have sufficient contrast. A CLA should probably solve it. However, I have seen some folks stick a small square over the focusing patch and it seems to do the trick for them.

As for renting a Leica, you probably just need to come round to one of our outings and... I better not say too much... but let's just say that was the point of no return for me ;)

Wow.. point of no return??? :) Pardon my ignorance, what is a CLA?

Anyway, I've decided to put this jump on hold first and concentrate on my darkroom techniques before committing so much $$$ into a Leica.

Thanks for all the kind advice RF guys. You have been very helpful indeed.

CLA stands for;
Clean, Lubricate, Adjust.
