Think you can get a second hand epm1 with kit lens at that price. Should be good enough for a start for your budget.

J1 is not m4/3.

Mirrorless cameras does not automatically mean m4/3. Only cameras that use the m4/3 lens mount are m4/3 cameras.

Why don't you simply rent one first to see which one you are most comfortable with? Our recommendation might not necessary suit your needs (which in this case is not even stated - making it harder to make a recommendation) and taste. For example, the epm1 is a good camera but I simply dislike the ergonomics and the physical look.

If renting is not your cup of tea, then try going down to one of the stores (i.e. TK Foto, MS Color etc) and try it out for a moment.
