Thanks

I think I am going to get the 105mm micro F2.8 this weekend ... what you think ?

Legendary lens...

I personally have a 105mm af-d. Super sharp

you don't use the 105mm autofocus one ?
af-d is autofocus, but for macro stuff, I normally focus by moving the camera forward and backward

Ok, learnt new tips from you today ...

Some focus stacking software would be nice too.

AF 105mm f/2.8D is the older version, the current version is AFS 105mm f/2.8G VR. In macro world most use manual focus when you get really near to the 1:1. I am attempting 1.7:1 this dive trip with AFS 105mm f/2.8G VR and TC-17EII, and somethings with TC-14EII for 1.4:1.

My opinion between the 2 versions: similarly sharp, AFS faster AF (which sometimes can be a liability when ambient illumination level is low), and AFS better OOF bokeh. AFS 105 is likely to be more acceptable than AFD 105 when used as a portrait lens.
