Forgot to add that the G10 has much better battery life than the G9 and G7. Heard of G9 users having to change batteries after 2 dives. The G10 is rated to 450 shots i think which should safely get you through one day of diving (4 dives?) without having to open the housing to change camera batteries...

i think that depends on the usage..some divers i know leave the camera on for the whole dive. the LCD screen is probably the most power-intensive component in the camera.

it's really puzzling to hear those divers complaining about the "lousy" battery life after their dives...haha

all the cameras i had can always safely last me thru a weekend trip. Canon powershots, ixus, and DX-1G. In fact, the battery meter still shows full after the weekend. Used a single set of batteries for my A95 in similans before on a 5D LOB..hehe

Although LCD takes up battery life, the 'killer' is in fact the camera flash. And if you're overseas on a 3/4 dive a day extended trip with a lot of subjects to shoot, it's easy to hit 100+ shots on a single dive. So again depends on usage for sure. So for friends i know of using the G9, it's change batteries after 2 dives when overseas.

yup, agree..

like i always say..the best camera is the one that comes out after you've bought yours...haha

just buy whatever fits your budget! cos you know you're going to buy another one soon.

my friend bought it for $1.4k from your friendly (depends on your luck...) neighbourhood S&S dealer..

how would you guys rate this set as compared to using dSLR in U/W housings and stuff? i'm gettin ready to go into this area and trying out wif my friend's olympus set and see how things goes.. but would like to be advised for the kind of camera and U/W housing i should go.. i'm more of a macro shooter U/W i realised.. i heard the above mentioned S&S set has a special macro function or what.. but i would like to hear reviews and comments too.. or any other suggestions..

yes the GX200/DX-2G is able to focus at 2 inches at 72mm equivalent zoom. which means you can zoom to the max, and still focus at 2 inches. most other compact cameras only allow you to focus at 50cm or further when you use optical zoom.

this is pretty cool because it allows you to get slightly better than 1:1 macro.

here's an example of what i'm talking about...it's slightly mis-focused, but you should be able to see what i mean. taken at 72mm equivalent, MFD. no external lenses or whatnot.

As a professional photographer I am constantly on the lookout for updated softwares to improve my pictures. A friend sometime back suggested the site http://www.stepok.net/eng/index.htm which has uploaded two new softwares. One is Turbo Photo, while the other one is Recomposit. In Turbo Photo, the full control of exposure, color, quality and the problem oriented user interface make it easy for everyone and Recomposit is a photo masking and compositing tool which precisely isolates the image object from its background and merges it with others. The site is a must-visit site for all photographers.

oh i see.. i'm reali interested to get this S&S set.. so on the lookout for this.. lookin online at the various shops.. anywhere in SG i could take a look at the actual camera itself and get a good price wif it also? heh.. =p

SnS has a branch in Singapore, go to this site: http://www.seanseacamera.com/.

I called them few weeks ago, and the difference between DX-2G and DX-1G is about S$400, cannot remember the price, you may check out by yourself.

do share your exp. if you get the cam, coz I am planning to get one as well, now saving money, lol

my friend got the DX-2G, and I can only stare at him happily taking pictures while i'm waiting for my DX-1G to write the RAW file to the card. at the same time, i'm also contemplating whether i should turn off his air first, removing the mask and snatching the camera, or to snatch mask, turn off the air, and snatch the camera.

which is better?
sigh
))=

wahahaha..:bsmilie: tink u shld take his regulator wif one hand and the mask wif the other first.. after tt is done, take the camera wif one hand and then turn off the air wif the other.. two simple steps.. wahaha.. does ur fren has any comments about the DX-2G set? wad's his set up? do we reali nid the strobe for this set?

by the way.. earlier on someone mentioned the DX-1G set costs about 1.2-1.3k is it? if so.. $400 more would add up to 1.6-1.7k.. and the strobe is usually about $400-$700? i nt sure abt tt.. but i'm juz guessing.. the whole set would costs more then 2k! wow.. reali nid to save up.. mayb i shld start up a garage sale and get some money rollin in and take a few part time jobs for tt set! ha..

my friend paid $1.4k for the DX-2G...don't waste time with the DX-1G unless you want to buy mine..haha

1 strobe will definitely improve your pictures. 2 strobes can do wonders. but that's up to the user.

a decent strobe like the S2000/D2000/YS90 will set you back anywhere from $600-900+

The new price qoute from ScubaCam - Inon D2000 = $740, Inon Z240 = $930.... both include GST. Did not ask about the Ikelite Strobe.... But I think they are more $$$$ due to them having higher power rating.

I was thinking of getting another Strobe to use with my Inon Z240 for my upcoming Lembeh trip this July. Now.... have to 'Think' again  A D2000 would cost me 1 Canon EF 100mm f2.8 Macro lens I was planning to get this June. :bsmilie:

you can always borrow/rent the strobes..hehe

Thought about it.... 1 of my dive buddy is using Z240 also. But I would have to by a '2 way' optic cable and a extra pair of arms for that borrow strobe (he use a shorter Ultralight arms).... More $$$ again.

Nah.... would just stick to my 1 strobe and use the buget for a 100mm Macro lens this june (hopefully my Boss would paid Bonus). :bsmilie:

waaa.a..... *EYES OPEN BIG BIG* goodness.. U/W photography is definitely not for me now.. i tink i gotta have to stick to the borrowed olympus from my fren and make do wif it first.. but the limitations of it sometimes grill my eyes.. ha.. goodness.. i nv knew it would costs much much more den i estimated.. looks like its more den a few months of saving.. wow!! whr did ur fren get the DX-2G for 1.4k? at the aldephi centre branch? mayb i cna get tt one first and borrow strobe from my fren.. ha.. but after saving up first of cuz..

Nobody starts with a Full Set of Gears.....

My 1st set was a Canon Ixus 400 + OEM casing
My 2nd set was a Canon Powershot A610 + OEM casing (later add a Arm & Tray set with focus light.... with the Strobe coming much later.)
And my current set is just a chance of Camera (due to my friend drowning my A610).... with the Strobe remaining the same and a upgrade to a better Arm system. Only added a new more powerful dive light for nightdive recently.

Moral of the story.... all the above took some 5 years to happen... from late 2004 till today. We alway start 'small'... slowly working our gears up. Till today, even when I have 2 DSLR body... I'm still very much unwilling to go for a DSLR setup (just too damn $$$$$). You will always need to start somewhere.... and slowly reach a personal buget limit.

Or did you start with a FF camera with 10 L lens..... :bsmilie:
