I used to to a lot of walking back home in NZ through the native bush.

But the definition of bashing here puzzles me ...

So what is the normal attire needed for one these treks, besides good boots, I normally just wear lightweight shorts and tshirt ...

Not really bashing thru.....just walking unmarked trail inside secondary forest, a long trekking pants is prefered so those undergrown wouldn't cut you.
