yes, usually d70 is very popular, especially the period when people dumping their d70 nonstop

i have seen output of some modified d80s, is ok though, the main problem is cost, i think

link

max max, a company that provides modification of cameras from scratch in the us (i think) also has d80 on the list, so it shouldn't be too bad.

d80 unmodified is really bad at taking ir photos though, the hot pass filter too strong or something, not too sure about the exact technicalities.

take IR insects. :bsmilie:

has been done before..

link1
link2

but has limited purpose, i guess. after all, ir effect most pronounced in foilage in sun and clouds and water.. and such a waste to dump the true color of some of the pretty pretty insects :D

Actually my D80 is just sitting inside my dry-cabi.....had think of mod it sometime ago, but never really do it. ;p

I heard that there are a few selection of filter, each with give diff tone and colour.

yar, got different level of cut off,

most of what you see in ir/uv forums here is r72, about 720nm cut off, giving just a hint of color. out of cam with correct white balance should be sepiaish, foliage near white.. ir effect quite pronounced already.

cokin is slightly less light cut off, more color, but ir effect not so pronounced, but there.

there are also options like ELP (edmund long pass).. generally you trade off amount of color with ir effect. i prefer having color though.. although "die hard traditional" ir people overseas seem to only shoot b&w (probably cos IR film is bnw).

can see this thread for comparison for ELP and R72.

Hmmm....

pretty interesting...

ya...very interesting.....but one fixed, will be stuck with it. So have to consider what type of filter.....

Personally, if I were to head off in this direction, I'd go R72 or ELP.
