went to your website.. how is the performance for tamron 17-50 with the DCR-250?

Hi.

TAMRON 17-50mm - Some vignetting I suppose. IF you are not too bothered by it, still ok.

Thanks,
Jim, McGill.

To be frank, Tamron 17-50 cannot be used with the DCR250. Very serious vignetting seen.

The below photo is taken with my 40D, Tamron 17-50 @ 50mm and DCR250 attached. The issue is the Tamron 17-50 has a 67mm filter thread while the DCR250 is 49mm thread.

Hi Tee,

Thanks for the pic... Very uesful to those who own the Tamron 17-50mm.

We have some clients who aren't that bothered by it though, probably they don't mind cropping or they have alternative lenses to play with. :)

Cheers,
Jim, McGill.

I believe they would be using on their alternative lenses as the magnification on the 17-50 lens at 50mm is pretty small.

For example I have the EF-S55-250IS lens also and I use the DCR250 on either this lens or my Canon S3.

Just for those who are intending to use the DCR250 on the 55-250 lens, there is a slight light drop off at the corners of the pic all the way until ard 135mm. But if you use an external flash, there is no issue. And you can't use the onboard flash on your cam either as it will cast a large black shadow at the bottom of your pic.

Lastly, you will get 1:1 magnification in your EF-S 55-250 lens at ard 100mm.

Hi Jim, can you advise on the suitable teleconverter lens available for LX3 (together with the adapter tube)? Planning to get one due to the limited zoom of this DC (only 60mm).

Into on LX3: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/panasonicdmclx3/

Thanks!

I believe most people would use the LX3 with the MSN202 in order to get the magnification they require for macro photography. But take note that the focusing distance will probably be ard 5cm.

MSN202 is 25 diopter so focusing distance should be ard 4cm.

thanks for the tamron pic
other than the vignetting, the magnification isnt enough for me it seems
i'll save up for a longer zoom lens first

Thanks pal for the recommendation but what is need is a teleconverter leh. Can this macro lens be used at TC as well?

Nope, it can't. Raynox only has 2 teleconverters I believe. DCR2025 and DCR1540. Whether they can be used with LX3 I do not know. Maybe you can check with Jim on this.

Hi All,

Please note the light loss issue can also be resolved completely if you attach our McGill Constant Right Light to the front of the DCR-250. For details, see below:

So far it is one of our bestselling accessories for DCR-250 other than the Slave Flash with Flip-It Pro Flash Diffuser (combo) which you can get at a $10 discount from retail price - S$150nett if you get it TOGETHER with any of our Raynox macro lenses.

Hi All,

As a general guideline, use DCR-250 if your digital camera has 12x optical zoom or more; MSN-202 if your camera has less than 5x optical zoom.

For example:
Canon S5 + DCR-250
Lumix LX3 + MSN-202

So the magnification effect is quite similar if you use a 12x optical zoom camera with DCR-250 compared to a 3x optical zoom camera with MSN-202.

This is for general macrophotography only.

IF you have good skills and a great setup, you can use a 12x optical zoom camera with the MSN-202 too, such as the Lumix FZ50 + MSN-202 combo.

Cheers,
Jim, McGill.

Hi,

DCR-1850PRO only has 1.85x zoom. Do you think it's enough magnification for your camera?

Cheers,
Jim, McGill.
