With the forums recently being filled with out-of-topic posts and useless replies,
can we implement a "helpful" rating system so that members can click on each individual reply and rate it helpful/not-helpful? The total statistics will be shown on member's profile permanently. Hopefully this will discourage too much off-topic posts in the future for people who genuinely asking for advise or help.

Errr .. even if you click on the member profile and was rated not-helpful ... so what are you going to do about it ?? :) Got ignore button to use wor ..

Even if it is helpful .. it may seem otherwise be truth ??

Helpful / Not-helpful is subjective .. who cares? :dunno:

Let me try to put it this way ...

Subscriber to CS .... Helpful to fund the forum
Member ........... Not-helpful as no contribution was made ??? :dunno:

However I have seen quite some experience photographers like to OT in the thread, but they also gave very good and solid advices, how do you rate the person then?

Also wonder will it give more load on the server, given the slowness during the peak hour (before mid night)

Most people can be pretty cautious about their reputations. Trust me on this.

any visitor at all is helpful as it brings traffic to the site and make the advertising work.
ClubSnap has advertisers, if you haven't noticed.

OT can be fun, no doubt. So it's really up to members to vote it at all, or not.
Like Kopitiam, those are the places where members would very unlikely to vote anything.
But in other more serious forums, where people are seeking help or advise, it can be highly frustrating having to wade through pages of off-topic posts by insensitive posters.

In that can .. then you may want to suggest member MUST used/registered their real name to post rather than nickname .. :)

Reputation at stake mah .. :sweatsm:

think no need. system already overloaded and sometimes can't log in...

Some of the most useful ones are also the most abusive ones. Clearly your point is pointless.

good idea...and everyone must use their own passport photo as avatar ;p

real name with passport photo as avatar, I give my support

How about a thumb print? Or DNA code?

and home address as the "location" in the user profile

Mods: maybe we could follow www.arofanatics.com forums style. what they did was every forumer started out with 10 points reputation, and if the fellow clubsnappers feel that a post that they made is valid and great for the community, the rest can click on his reputation button to up his reputation.

every clubsnapper can only up once in 24hrs, thus u can be assured that those that got their reputation upped, deserves it.

But on the other hand, those that post OT post or junk or sarcastic nonsense post can be "downed" by other clubsnappers, meaning the clubsnappers can click on his reputation button to down his reputation. There is no worry about abuse of this system whereby a person keep downing someone's reputation because one can only up/down a person once in 24hrs.

For those that got their reputation downed to perhaps -10, should be banned from clubsnap, as the manner the person post is in a abusive manner that is disrupting the harmony in clubsnap. In a way, it works something like the Buy and Sell rating.

And trust me on this, after arofanatics implemented this, the community has been posting all sorts of helpful and heart warming post, and in fact those junk rubbish are a rare sight.

i believe it is a system worth trying out in a bid to help improve clubsnap. Cheers.

the reputation system buildin the vbulletin board is very very difficult to implement if you have run a forum before.(technically easy, but difficult adminstratively),

I scrapped it after running it for a week, and if you check out the feedback from other forum administrators in vbulletin forum, many has failed to implement the rep system without complain from the users.

no lah, this kind of thing, just one more magnet for bad feelings and stuff.

but then the bad feelings and stuff is started because of some junk and nonsense posted by someone 1st rite? if no junk, then there would be peace, everyone would be peacefully living happily ever after, thats the purpose of the rep system..to control the junks posted by those repeatedly abusive members.

erm, u are right i never run a forum before, and i dunno abt the administrative workload involved in keeping track of the rep system. But looking at the way the recent threads have proceeded[lawsuits, flaming, threatening etc.], i believe this is a "try-able" avenue for the admins to regulate clubsnap. And the majority of the people in clubsnap are old enough[age wise] to use the rep system as a control effectively rite? ;)

Maybe you can fund another server to perform this task. ;)

i can give you a long list of possible ways to abuse the reputation system, and this is already enough to give the admin a big headache on how to implement it fairly. This function has been around for years, why do you think not many forums implement this? (oh yah..even vbulletin forums themselves didnt implment this).

I will say CS admin/mod already done a good job and react quickly when there are such incident. Having the rating system may introduce even more problems than to reduce them.

PLEASE DO NOT ASK FOR ANYMORE FEATURES

The server is overloaded as it is.... can barely surf at night.

We should be thinking of ways to streamline the forum so that it runs smoother... not come up with ways to bog it down.

OT post? Just ignore it. Add the guy to yr ignore list if you must.

I'd rather read OT posts than "The server is too busy at the moment. Try again later".
