I strongly believe this show will collect all the "Awards / Prizes" in Star Award 2009.
Obviously the budget and there are so many strong cast...of course everything goes to them.
Star Award is simply kelong...

Haha... Star Awards... the most lame awards show...

Actually to be honest, I am quite disappointed in most of MC shows. Very seldom I do watch a complete series.

Haha... very seldom do I even watch a single episode! :bsmilie:
This only show... lost hope liao...

IMO it's a break though for Mediacorps......at last something different from those crazy comedies that we seen day in day out from 8~10pm

Wah liaooo.... if this is called breakthrough... then it's really sad lor...
Of the MC shows, I think "Perfect Cut" is one of the better or I may even say best ones to date. At least the content has substance, the storyline is fresh (Nonya storyline is not at all fresh lor... only the Nonya theme is fresh... same sh*t in a different toilet bowl!) and the mood is a bit arty. It is the only MC show I have bothered to watch in the last 10 years!

Do I believe? Yes, why not?
Do I think they deserve it? No.

Yes, that is what the news reported. Somehow I am a bit skeptical. Are they sure that Little Nyonya 小娘惹 beat the following drama:

- He Ping De Dai Jia (Japanese Occupation)
- Shuang Tian Zhi Zhun series 1,2,3... (Gambling storyline)
- Jing Zhen Tou (Golden Pillow)

:dunno:

Did the news report absolute figures or percentage? If it is absolute figures (which it should not be), then it is no surprise if you compare the popultation size of the time of those shows and now. If it is percentage, well... it is possible too. Many watch to understand the Nonya culture or are curious about it... Nonya/ Peranakan people who don't usually watch Chinese shows may watch this show too, since they identify themselves with it.

I think it's highly over rated, no?

Definitely!

Even so i din even watch a single episode... given up on local drama long time ago... except for the occasional PCK and the Noose..

Haha... yeahhh... PCK is still one of the best local shows... no matter how lame their jokes get! There's just this flavour and even if the jokes are lame, they are still really funny, at least! :bsmilie:

I loved the first season of the Noose but this 2nd season... ... really lame and sometimes not funny, just plain boring.

i wonder how this survey was done.

Yeahh... I've always wondered how they do viewership surveys.
Must my TV be on for the entire show to count me as a viewer?
If I only watched one episode, does that count me as a viewer?
Also, they can only know the TV set is on to that channel but how would they know how many people in the household are watching?? :dunno:

They are trying to make an Ah Jie nonya version.

golden pillow...classic case of cheesy script writing. can still remember the vary last scene where Fann Wong, Zoe Tay and Alex Man put their ears on that bleddy rock and said, "ni ting dao le mah?'
That one seared into the etches of the mind...that after donkey ears it still remains.:ipuke:

Ok. I have to admit that I have not watched a single episode. However, I can still make my best guess. The background is based on Nonya, Yes. With Nonya clothing, folks songs, the way they address each other and the yellow cast, which as of now, I still couldn't understand the need for that heavy yellow cast.

Now, let's review the story. Again my best guess....Love triangle, sibling rivals, jealousy, greed...all these can be found on that "Xing Hua Dou DOu Kai", my best guess again. All simply change it to a Nonya setting. Simple port over.

Also, the highlight of the drama, some mentioned of the PG part (you know which section), how can they as MC present such a "concept" on the "golden hour" where many young viewers are watching...It should be rated PG liao...

In addition, MC has lately getting their young female artiste to dress in skimpy clothing...and MC tried to blow trumpet out of that and this is the same for this Nonya drama. :blah: Instead of beefing up on the story structure, they prefer otherwise... :thumbsd:

uhm....maybe because all sbs and some smrt buses that have TV are plugged in to that channel?...i dont know..uhm..maybe its because its the only channel?...heheh

jst my worthless 2 cents..

I also don't understand what so nice about the show. Don't know why its apparently reported to be so good - maybe its just marketing fluff?

You seem to love this show. I've been asking on the other thread what's so nice about it but got no answer... Maybe you can tell me what's so nice about it... I just don't understand... :dunno:

Well....maybe your standard is very high....mine not....I enjoy the show thoroughly despite they are against the big budget Hollywood Mummy2 on channel 5 the same time

It's tough being Mediacorp especially with funding from MCD....they have to justify and viewer ship is the best barometer for the popularity of the type of show people like....what's the point of having marvelous substances, fresh story line and what ever super duper effects you name it but cannot draw the crowds? :dunno:

Did not follow the show.. some commented that it wasnt good... well they are just opinion!

yes.... why not...

i did not watch he ping de dai jia.
while i did watch this nyonya show...

those shows are some years ago... with the huge increase of FT here, not surprise if it garner the highest viewership in 15 years...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nielsen_Ratings

Nielsen Television Ratings are gathered by one of two ways; by extensive use of surveys, where viewers of various demographics are asked to keep a written record (called a diary) of the television programming they watch throughout the day and evening, or by the use of Set Meters, which are small devices connected to every television in selected homes. These devices gather the viewing habits of the home and transmit the information nightly to Nielsen through a "Home Unit" connected to a phone line. Set Meter information allows market researchers to study television viewing habits on a minute to minute basis, seeing the exact moment viewers change channels or turn off their TV. In addition to this technology, the implementation of individual viewer reporting devices (called people meters) allow the company to separate household viewing information into various demographic groups. In 2005, Nielsen began measuring the usage of digital video recordings (TiVo, for example) and initial results indicate that time-shifted viewing will have a significant impact on television ratings. The networks are not yet figuring these new results into their ad rates at the resistance of advertisers.[1]

Definitely .... for several reasons:

1) The "Chinese" population has grown, esp with the influx of the PRC FTs,
2) Since 1993, the country population has "grown" so much,
3) In 1993, how many families have TV? Now most houses have 2 or 3 or 4 TVs, and if I am not mistaken, children, grandparents, etc... are all watching in their rooms...
4) Now is recession and so many people got nothing much to do but to be fed with such ridiculous show .... :dunno:

secret to making popular shows:
have a lot of rape
rape here rape there rape everywhere.

best local drama to me is still,

yang guang lie che 1, (the teachers drama)
mi li ye, (the mysterious ghost stories)
shuang tian zhi zun 1 (god of gambler sg version)

not to mention the all famous, qi jue qiao jia ren (the 7th month love story), tcs telemovie

dont know why they still dont get it, we are not looking for lotsa CG, lotsa explosion drama, we just want a back the solid storyline dramas where they can do it so many years ago. Cant they learn from the hk dramas? they can come out with so many dramas theme from hk police and yet so many of them are so nicely done?

little nonya to me is just a drama nicely package with glamorous costumes beautiful cast but story plot lack of planning. i do watch it, but didnt feel it up to standard to claim the best drama. there are times i go wtf, like how yueniang can be save by da sha feeding her bird nest "accidentally" found off the roof and "accidentally" cooked, it is plain ridiculous.

I do watch this show occasionally together with my wife and mother. Both of them love it and followed every episode. I started watching it from the last 10 or 9 episodes only.

Personally, I feel that this show is better than some of the other MediaCorp's Chinese dramas, despite the fact that there are quite a few historical inaccuracies and timing errors. Nonetheless, I rated it at '4'.

Don't expect "Hollywood-standard" in MediaCorp's shows, but "The Little Nyonya" is definitely one of the better local productions throughout the 45 years span of Singapore television programming.

And, yes, the yellow cast is annoying. At first I though my TV had problem until my mother pointed out that this is a "yellow" show (ironically, this also means pornography in mandarin).

So if I record a show, does it register as a viewing? I record all the shows that I want to watch so that I don't have to follow TV schedule and when I watch them, I can skip over all the ads! I can also pause whenever I like to go toilet or take food. Own time own target !
