Questions on Yashica 35 Electro GSN

Just a note to those who might be interested, Panasonic still makes these batteries under the designation 4NR52-PX32, or HM-4N. No idea how my developer found it, but he had one of these in stock.

Picked it up in Sydney, so I'm not sure about local shops. You can Google the model number if you want... Before this, I was using the 4LR44, spring method, and used the core of a toilet roll (it's thick, yes?) to wrap the battery.

You can also find light seal repair kits on Ebay, and if you're willing to read and work through Yashica Guy's checkup (www.yashica-guy.com), I think you should be able to avoid the $70 repair charge.

Here's a grainy pic of the batt... sorry, had to take it with my phone cam since I'm my old F505 is a tad buggy these days...

edit: Sorry, but a quick Google revealed my battery as being the banned one. You can still order it from http://www.photobattery.com/ if you're hard up for one, otherwise, the 4LR44. I'd just like to add that the lens is simply brilliant. I've taken photos indoor on 400 film without flash, and the thing still doesn't complain about the low light. Needed to push the F-stop to around 1.7/2.0 to make it happen, but well worth the while as colours don't get that washed out look from flashes.

Actually for the Yashicas, there's an autoregulator in it so not supplying the exact 5.6v will not result in wrong exposures as in the case with some cameras. I've tested my Electro with 1 CR123 and 2 LR44 with my light meter and the meter's accurate.
Hope this helps.

 This is a good idea. I tried it. Thanks.

The readily available CR123 + 2 x LR44 will add up to about the same height of the original battery without the need for springs, one cent coins or tin foil etc. And supplying 6v. If you wish, you can widen the diameter of the LR44 by wrapping some paper over them.

Great to know that there are quite a few GSN users around here. Just bought one in excellent condition. Still haven't got time to bring it out to shoot yet.

To me this is an entirely new world of rangefinder, having gone thru' MF SLR, AF SLR and dSLR.

Anyway, it is such a wonder that such a cam is still working after a whopping 30 years!
