Just a note to those who might be interested, Panasonic still makes these batteries under the designation 4NR52-PX32, or HM-4N. No idea how my developer found it, but he had one of these in stock.
Picked it up in Sydney, so I'm not sure about local shops. You can Google the model number if you want... Before this, I was using the 4LR44, spring method, and used the core of a toilet roll (it's thick, yes?) to wrap the battery.
You can also find light seal repair kits on Ebay, and if you're willing to read and work through Yashica Guy's checkup (www.yashica-guy.com), I think you should be able to avoid the $70 repair charge.
Here's a grainy pic of the batt... sorry, had to take it with my phone cam since I'm my old F505 is a tad buggy these days...
edit: Sorry, but a quick Google revealed my battery as being the banned one. You can still order it from http://www.photobattery.com/ if you're hard up for one, otherwise, the 4LR44. I'd just like to add that the lens is simply brilliant. I've taken photos indoor on 400 film without flash, and the thing still doesn't complain about the low light. Needed to push the F-stop to around 1.7/2.0 to make it happen, but well worth the while as colours don't get that washed out look from flashes.
