http://www.four-thirds.org/en/products/lense.html is the lens that are available in the market for your new E-510 camera. Hi i'm also a E-510 camera user, curious that there is E-520 on the market and you choose E-510. Not to say that E-520 image quality(IQ) is better is just that camera has more interesting features... ...

First you should learn the camera and the lenses that come with it. Start with the following sites:
-free online lessons on the E-510, and some basic-advanced photography lessons:
http://www.olympusdigitalschool.com/
-General Olympus E tidbits and useful information:
http://www.wrotniak.net/photo/43/index.html

After that you can learn about the adapters for use on LEGACY (manually controlled focus and manually controlled aperture, non electronic) lenses (you CAN'T use modern lenses for other digital cameras, there's no way to convert the signals):
http://www.wrotniak.net/photo/43/any-lens.html

After which time you are then ready to ask your next questions about using manual lenses.

As for what FourThirds lenses to buy, you have to decide on focal length (do you want wider or closer (tele)), do you want lenses that are better in lower light (more $$$), what's your budget...the most basic question is what are you going to photograph? After using the kit lenses for a while you'll get an idea of some of those answers (or maybe the kit lens is enough for you). Again Wrotniak has a good list of what's available and what's coming:

You have to learn how to walk before you can run.

OM lenses are manual film lenses that were for Olympus OM film cameras.

I thought I made it clear enough when I said, "After that you can learn about the adaptors for use on LEGACY (manually controlled focus and manually controlled aperture, non electronic) lenses (you CAN'T use modern lenses for other digital cameras, there's no way to convert the signals)."

You CAN use manual Nikon lenses with an adapter BUT you CAN'T use modern electronically controlled lenses. In the old days focus and aperture was all done on the lens mechanically...today's cameras use electronic signals to set the aperture and focus sent by the camera body, and you can't convert those signals between different brands of cameras (at least not yet).

The same goes for electronic flashes...you can use manual and auto flashes with no problems as there's no electronic intelligence involved, but you can't use dedicated or TTL flashes between cameras because they don't understand each other and the pins aren't in the same places.

Unless you are a used E510 at a lower price than new unit, the E510 and E520 has not much difference in pricing. You might consider getting few new features in E520.

I would save up to get a brand new e520 with the extra feature though...
I think it worth the effort.

welcome to the world of Four thirds... anyway E510 is a good cam too... other then some diff like Auto focus at live view, 3.5fps, wireless capability, better Live view colour (these are what i thought of at this moment) not much diff compare to E510 actually.

playback E520 and compare the colour on LCD, obviously E520 and 420 is better. but of cuz when playback in PC, the colour is ok. Sorry I think i should change my sentence to view playback on 520 is better.

You are one sensible dude :thumbsup:

BTW go figure out why lenses don't usually drop in price but camera bodies ..... ;)

Well, prices have dropped but most of the price of the lens is GLASS, and optical glass costs $$$!

If you want cheaper lenses they could always replace the glass with plastic...like the Holga cameras.
