On my menu, Image Sharpening is set to None (queer that it shows soft on the EXIF).

Now that you mention it, could it be a Firmware problem whereby you select no Image Sharpening and it gives you Soft sharpening anyway!? :what:

I am using Fine JPEG

I tried two other lenses, same problem.

We will test on Saturday and see what happens..

Also could be a rear focus plane problem with the camera or something like that which happened to my D100 recently too. Suggest you send it in to Nikon to check. Mine cost $180 to fix.

Hmmm... even under warranty!?

Btw, how long do they take?

Mine's not under warranty. Took about 5 days but I'm under NPS & I rushed them, if not may take longer.

here's a tip that might help you guys and which may solve the problem with the s2pro/d100/f80 misfocussing

I have a problem with my s2pro being JUST ABIT OOF which causes unsharp images and also I feel that it is easy to get OOF images as the camera locks on wrongly.

here's what I found and I need independent confirmation if this improves your results

for the center focussing box, the sensor isn't across the box

NOT -------> [+]

but it is more like THIS --------> [_]

it is along the bottom line of the box, try to use that for your focussing.

and if you try to take a vert shot, imagine where you would usually focus on, (especially for face shots) you can see easily y the shots are easily OOF

pls confirm and let me know

cheers

I used to shoot 1/30 with my D7i, never had this kinda problem... Even tried shooting at 1/20, and it works

That's because you have a mirror there in your D100, my friend... What you can do with your D7i doesn't mean you can do the same with your DSLR.

That is why Leica M users always claim they can hold their breath better ... I can too with my rangefinder... ;)

Your focus is not just off but really way off. Do you not have a picture taken outdoor when light is more generous? This is a simple test to rule out camera shake due to the photographer.

Shall we have a Nikon council gathering on monday? Would be easier to test & see on the spot.

Adrian had a go at my D100 today (Thanks so much man!!! :) )

The problem has been identified to be a focussing problem. I went to Harvey Norman and they told me I got to call some 1800 number (Mon-Fri 8am-5pm) to know where to take it to.

I will do just that, first thing on Monday and take it there and tell them that I am in a rush. I hope they are able to do some quick adjustment. I like (wait a minute... I LOVE) my D100 and it not working well disturbs me to the extent that I cannot study (and exams in 10 days time.. sigh :( )

I set image softening to both Normal and None.. and shoot side by side with my D100.. and my own lenses.. the images on rapids D100 was definitely out of focus and very soft..

Hmm will take a while for Nikon to get it fixed methinks. You should be glad that this happened as it will take your camera away from you as you study for exams :)

You mean yours has that problem too? I'm not sure but after I got mine back it seems that the focussing is still a bit 'out', in that the subject area that the focus point was aimed at is not as sharp as those areas outside it. Thot' it might be becos' my focussing/targetting was to blame but seems to be apparent in quite a few shots that I took for that particular shoot. Came back & did some testing with a couple of different lenses but couldn't seem to replicate the problem or it wasn't very appparent. :dunno:

Nikon counsel when will be the next meeting.

Thank you.

cyrilng: Nope, mine doesn't get that problem, just sending in for maintenance of shutter & cleaning of CCD as I've an important shoot coming up ;)

airforce1: I'm not too sure when, maybe perhaps the head of the council might announce a court session.

We usually meet in the evening around 7pm at Spinelli. It should be on this monday...

The verdict fell today, I got to change the AF chip and some other stuff to do with the mirror. Along with the servicing it cost 360 bucks.

It is under warranty from Harvey Norman, so they will very likely foot the bill.

They will update the firmware for me for free.

However they will take about one MONTH to get it done!

Nikon (where you should take it after calling Harvey Norman) told me that this is because it involves 3rd party (HN) and that they will have to settle their side before Nikon can go ahead.

The lady told me that she will try to make it 2-3 weeks but still :(

Wow! That's twice what I paid & 3 times longer than I had to wait! But I guess it's worth it if you don't have to pay a single cent more than the original premium for the extended warranty.

Glad to hear that yours doesn't have the same problem.
