Sorry to hijack this thread with my question:

I am using a 512mb Kingston SD card and while shooting in the video mode, the red question mark sign appeared on the screen after about 1 minute plus and automatically stopped & saved the recording... question is, I tot the video-recording can last longer in video mode?

btw, I hav about 50 shots taken in my camera.

To take continuous video, u would need a high speed SD card....something with speed of 40x or 60x speed.....hope it helps.. :)

Which type of sd card that you are using? Which video resolution and frames that you are using? I'm also using 512 kingston elite pro SD card which is in white color. I'll try and let you know about it. Coz even myself i've not really try it yet. hehe... cheers

I think it is ok. A normal 512MB card can store about 2min of video. If your card is too slow, it should stop after about 20sec. The fact it can go to more than 1 mins means it is probably fast enough. But it will be good to download the existing pictures, format the card, and reshoot the video again to see if it can shoot continuously to full capacity. A ferw times if you can kiasu. Of course let us know the outcome also lah...

Hi, ive tried it out on my 512 kingston elite pro, and i do not have problem recording movies at 640x320 @ 30fps until the card is full. Maybe u can try to reformat the card see if it helps or not. :)

yep, the IXUS 40 is fully automatic. for aperture override feature, you have to go for the larger IXUS 400, 430, 500 range, which IMO, takes better pictures because of the better lens.

VGA 640X480 req hi speed card like Pete. Think he is using `normal' Kingston card?

Agree with u that Ixus 400/430/500 has slightly better pic quality but as far as manual settings are concern, I believe they are the same as Ixus 30/40......which are basically ps cameras, for manual more settings, look at A85/95. Anyway here's the capability of Ixus 40

Look at Shooting mode in ur camera, it allows u to select pre-set scenarios, eg, kids&pets, underwater, manual, etc, etc. Manual allow u to adjust the exposure, white balance, photo effect, etc, etc.

Read thru' ur manual on pg 66 thru' 68. It will give u a better understanding of the ability of ur camera. more importantly, play with all the features.......u will find eventually understand the capability of ur camera. :D

I'm using a 512MB Kingston sd card. It's of normal speed. So far, I've managed to record 10 mins of video with my Canon Ixus. Have not tried to record for longer. I was recording at 15fps, btw.

The speed of the SD card is put to test only when you do recording at VGA full-rate, or when you have to do continuous snapping at max resolution and best quality; the later being the more 'siong' test. If your card can go continuously without red LED warning and pausing with 'BUSY' warning, then your Kingston card is fast enough. Maybe you could try and share your result with us. Kingston seems to be a popular brand here.

OK I will test out my Kingston card at 30fps and 640x480! I used 320x240 because I connected it to the tv and it looked fine...

I went to Eastgear to get my SD card, and they only had Kingston and Ridata (hi-speed, $85) so I got the Kingston one. Then later I saw this shop at Orchard, was selling Toshiba 512MB and promoting it so much. Say it's produced in Japan, whereas Kingston produced in Taiwan, not so good, etc. :dunno: I buy already, can't do anything!

Well, no worries about it. Kingston also a reliable brand. They also have their quality control and stuff like tat. And what's wrong with taiwan? hehe... Taiwan is also one of the advance country that produces many quality computer stuffs. Cheers.
