Putfile Says Goodbye To Singapore

I tot I read it or saw it somewhere that in S'pore, the convict's weight is measured & a bag of weights(calculated) are tied to his legs. When the level is pull, his neck breaks. it is almost instant death. This is to ensure less suffering for the convict.

aiyah, chop off the head is the fastest lah. some more can make into reality tv. scared of inhumane death, still want to be drug runner, come on, give me a kit kat. :sticktong

When Queen Mary of England was executed with the chop of her head, it was said that she tried to say something when her head was rolling on the floor. Of course, nothing came out because the lungs were elsewhere...

There is no weight under the legs. I suggest you guys/gals who are mildly interested in this to read up on some of the posts made to putfile's forum thread. Or you can refer here. And then here.

Yes, and Singapore uses the Long Drop method.

"Does the prisoner feel pain where the drop is sufficient to break their neck?
Obviously no one can be sure but it is generally held that if they do feel pain it is only during the instant that their neck is broken which can be measured in milliseconds."

How many of us agree to the death penalty rule? (let's see a raise of hands..)

On an eco-political scale, it gives the little red dot some sense of power and hold - a fierce authority, Singapore is not to be trifled with. Socially, and as we go down the hierarchal chain, each of us humans deduced to a bunch of inept humans, with barely-there brains, mere little goldfish bobbling about 680 sq km... And isn't this what putfile.com is doing to us? I've never heard of putfile, but I looks to me like a multimedia-centric service / forum unable to dissociate politics of higher influences with it's core service of providing media hosting and the likes.

While we disagree with putfile.com's method of isolating us in view of their principles, I am however embarrassed, as a citizen, to have a country standardise us into moulds, good moulds stay, bad moulds get thrown out (in this case - the gallows). Singapore has the highest death penalty rates in the world. It is no longer an issue of keeping with the law, but an issue of human rights. Nguyen's mother, was denied permission to hug her son before he was hanged. Also, Singapore's stand also disallows the family to be present at the son's hanging. I have no choice but to ask myself, who is more inhuman - Nguyen in his trafficking scheme, putfile in terminating Singapore users or Singapore who sent a criminal to the gallows.

If one thing I'd say to putfile's management, it'd be "Sorry", but i'm as helpless as everyone else reading this.

hmm i might be mistaken but i thought Nguyen's mother was allowed to see him or something? i didnt follow this issue very closely.

and i did think that keeping with the law & the issue of human rights arent mutually exclusive.

actually my personal opinion is the first: Nguyen in his trafficking scheme because his drugs are going to hurt so many other people.... these drugs not only kills but puts people in a state a torment for a long long time..

A person has to pay the price for his crimes... like what someone else said, if the punishment is not harsh, then what kind of deterrant would that be? If the punishment was light, then there probably would be more drug traffickers here. Then wouldn't be hurting even more people? Since when is drug trafficking humane?

Anyway, just my personal opinion.... a person has to pay for his own actions and i'm sure Nguyen is aware of the regulations of this country but yet he chose to do it...

I think the point here is that Drugs especially Heroin that Nguyen was trafficking harms and destroys lives. Heroin not only destroys the person who is taking it but also the people around him. I have friends who took it and they became a shadow of what they were before... From young people with a dream and a vision to a bunch of skin and bones looking more like zombies than humans. Smiling weakly at you when they see you and after the customary how have you been, it's "you wouldn't happened to be able to spare me a few dollars would you?" (A few dollars that goes into buying heroin for their next fix).

The death sentence might not be 100 percent effective but it does deter prospective drug mules from taking up the job of trafficking drugs. If there was no death penalty, there would be a larger number of people willing to traffic drugs. As some people I know of, their theory is just a few years in jail for a huge sum of money. They are luckier as in they were never caught and even if they did, it was in a country where the laws didnt have the death sentence.

And all the talk about Nguyen being a reformed man and is deserving to be spare the death sentence. Put it this way, which person when faced with death will not project any image of himself to escape it?

I do not think that Singapore was inhuman in not allowing his mother to be present at the hanging and also the big issue about not being able to hug him. How many people have been hung in the past without such an consideration and other countries such as USA dont have such provisions too. The emotional trauma and shock of seeing your loved one hung is most of the time too great a blow and for the poor man or woman on the death row, hearing and seeing at the last moment, a hysterical mother screaming her lungs out and tears rolling down her cheeks might be even more inhuman. Wouldnt it be better that everything was done quietly after the prisoner had already made peace with himself and his situation and let him or her face it bravely.

I personally find that this whole issue is about double standards and Australia trying to impose it's own set of values on us. As the Mandarin saying goes, A family has its rules, A country has its laws. Your citizen comitts a crime on our soil, he or she gets tried under our laws. We are not obligied to back down just because of threats and I feel too that locals should understand that we should defend our soveregnty and not be swayed by organisations that promote human rights etc etc.... To me its all double standards especially that we are an Asian country hence we are barbaric compared to a "civilized" white nation.

Why doesn't these organisations make any noise when asians were executed? For murder and drug trafficking? Did we hear "SAVE AH TOOT FROM THE GALLOWS" from these organisations? Nope... there was nothing but silence. However Nyugen although an Asian is a citizen of Great Australia hence the need to pressure an "developing" nation that is needy of Great Australia's advice and patronage to back down on its laws.

Hey... look. putfile removed their discussion thread. hahha... they were getting bashed left right and center in their own forum. Guess they got tired of it. Now to watch if putfile decides to eat crow and recede their ban, persist in their childish behavior or procede to treat the other 58 capital punishment countries with the same act. :bsmilie:

According to today's ST, John Howard, aussie PM said:

He will not campaign against death penalty. Why? Cos he said it will not be effective. He knew China and US will not give a damn. He will only campaign for aussies facing the death row.

Aussie life worth more than others? No guts to take on bigger nations?

wow! u ask us to read up an article that's
obviously written by some human-rights extremist.

what if i say i hv a 1st hand account of
seeing the 'hanging rm'?

maybe the sandbag for show-show only,
or for the comfort of the walking dead,
i don't know, n b4 u say,
i don't care too.

anyone messes with drugs deserved wat he gets,
in rewards or punishment.
considering drug trafficing offence as non-violent by some,
is out of this world to me.
do u violence to create havoc?

yup you're right. it's instant.

speaking about the misinformed...

On the other hand, let us thank them for re-iterating the point to their "audience"(if any), that Singapore does not condone any form of drug-trafficking and the maximum penalty is the death sentence.

To me it all looks like a publicity stint. Poot what?!?
