Purchase from BH Photo

USA Sets bought from B&H - Canon Singapore will honour the international warranty for 12 months (not 6 months, not sure where the info is from) - keep receipt and warranty card.

Did you apply for the extended warranty from Canon as well?

No you won't get that extra 3 months - it's just 12 months.

Good to see that Henry is on this forum too!

Thanks. Like the beach Boys, I get around. :-)

Hi Henry, maybe you can clear the air about the meaning of "import" vs "USA" in reference to whether we'll be able to get worldwide warranty service. What does "import" actually mean?

From our site:
About USA and GREY MARKET (DIRECT IMPORT) Products
Items marked "USA" are imported and/or distributed by the manufacturer or the manufacturer's official licensed importer/distributor and are warranted by them. Items marked "IMP" are imported and/or distributed by other entities and are warranted by B&H Photo-Video. "IMP" products do not qualify for manufacturer's rebate programs. There is no difference in the item itself.
We also have a longer more detailed description here.

Anybody bought camera direct from B&H before? Cos their price is really 20% cheaper compared to the local dealer like Alan Photo...

I bought a camcorder from bhphoto recently and it's S$500 cheaper incl. gst.

I bot Panasonic camcoder in 2008 from BHP. Was about $500 cheaper too.

US dollar is weak, Sing dollar is relatively strong, and B&H prices are great. Plus you don't pay NY State tax on the item when it gets shipped out. Yes you do pay for GST and shipping costs - but for substantially significant purchases - you do save quite a bid.

I just don't understand how they get stuff all the way to Brooklyn and sell it for cheaper than what it takes to bring it in from Japan to Singapore. I've shopped at B&H for about 6 years now, and I love them to death. Their store is practically a tourist attraction these days. Esp on Sundays...

Does B&H ship to S'pore .I'm thinking of getting Canon Speedlite 430EX II or 588EX II from
them.Thanks.

Shipping cost is just a small factor. Others like cost of doing business for retailers and import duty and taxes also play a role. The big one, I believe, is supply and demand - retailers will charge as high as they can get away with.

It appears many have and most seem rather satisfied. Look here.

We do. You can see the 430EXII here, and the 580 EX II here. There's a "calculate shipping" button on each page and Singapore is included.

i purchased a lot from BH and no complains, hands down for a great superb service :)

I almost bought a lens from them last year and I would give them the thumbs up. After completing the checkout and the credit card verification process, and just before they shipped the item out, I changed my mind.

All I had to do was to visit their website and did an online chat with their customer service representative. With no questions asked and in the most polite manner, they gave me the full refund and cancelled my order.

This is the kind of customer service that some of the so called reputable shops in Singapore should learn. Ofcourse, I did not cancel the order out of fun, I had my reasons for doing that.

I will definitely buy from them in the future.

this is great. kudos to henryp for the details. certainly of great help to me to browse and (maybe) buy online:)

Hi henryp, do you have the latest Canon 70-200 f2.8L IS Mk II in stock and at what price? Will it be cheaper to buy this lens from B&H even after considering the 7% GST & shipping it here?

Any folks tried it and have any experience to share as well?

Any idea if GST applies on the product, or product + shipping cost, or just shipping cost?

Intend to get a 580EX II :)

Any bros want to consolidate order to save on shipping cost? (it's..cheaper that way right?)

Prices and all are stated on the website man... and for international customers like us, it's pretty much just (USDprice + USDshipping) x Exchange rate to SGD + 7% GST. I have nothing but great shopping experience with B&H. More often than not, I'd only buy during the Canon Rebate Programme like now and you can save significantly on some items.

If you have a friend who wants to shop together...better, then you guys can share & save on shipping.

So many bros are going to HK in May and June, why not ask and see if they are willing to bring one back for you? Current price is HK$3,180. @S$1 to HK$5.6 at the moment, it is just about S$570. Flash guns are easy to test as compare to lenses. Just a thought...
