Printing panoramas for wall display

Hi

Need some input.

I have no idea as to the above - the industry I'm in is distantly removed from the advertising/ publishing industries.

I have some panoramic stitches that I would like to print and display at home. I'm new to photo-stitching, so the stitches are made mainly from verticals (portraits), and about 7 to 15 shots. All shot in fine jpeg, stitched with PS CS4.

A few things I am considering for a start:
1. What size would be 'optimal' to maintain reasonable resolution?
2. What are the options available in terms of printing method/ paper/ ink etc?
3. Based on the above, perhaps how the costing is going to work out.

Since it's for a personal touch to my home, I don't mind 'splurging' to get the best effect (best as in print and viewing quality). Of course I don't expect miracles since I am noobish at it and I did shoot in jpeg.

I don't mind advertisers or people in the industry PMing me with quotes. But I do need advise - and my home needs decorating!

Thanks!

simple, since its pano, so assume, its a horizontal pano. and if you wanna print til its darn big, you'll need a banner printer.

so what's the estimated vertical pixels your current image have after stitching and crop? then using that as a guide, you'll probably know how big you need. or if you have a final horizontal length, then you just divide it by its ratio to get the estimated size vertical size.

not really into printing but printed some stuff before, the uncles normally say 100-150DPI would be good enuff. Printer DPI & your output DPI isn't the same, even thou the printer prints 2880x1440 etc... if you consider that u might only print a 6mp image on 1"sq. And most of these images best viewed from afar. no need pixel peeping.

hi del_ctrinoalt

u're right about how these images are best viewed from afar

one example image is 12666 x 3979.
image resolution is 72 dpi. (hmmm....didn't realise the resolution is so low.)
but that makes it....approximately 176 x 55 inches...

wow, i am printing a banner....

anyway, which means the printer will be those pen printers?

pen printers? u meant plotters rite... ya... its one of those, but with an ink head instead.

there are a number of shops at bras basah and sunshine plaza that offers such services. personally, i go to Simple Digital @ brash basah complex, 2nd floor. they have plotters there for giant prints. just need to give them a day or 2 to print your order.

will try him too.

Or u can try to cut your pano up into portrait pieces, print them, then frame each of them up, hang them in a row.

Will look like you're looking at the scenery through a row of windows..
