Hello guys...

i was wondering is there a zoom which is compareable in terms of sharpness and AF speed to primes? Considering some zooms are very well commented for sharpness.
ex. 17-3.5 (not the G) with 24mm

and also same question about macro lenses vs a well known sharp lense as 50mm 1.4 with ext. tube.

thanks...

maybe make it simpler... best prime vs best zoom, prime still win... nuff said... worst prime vs best zoom, den best zoom win, den worst prime vs worst zoom... y compare? waste time... :bsmilie:

for macro lens vs ext tube... its simple... if u compare a 50mm macro with a 50mm 1.4, u will notice that 50mm 1.4 have faster AF than the 50mm macro... cos 1 is significantly faster at 1.4 than 2.8, and also 1 have a shorter focusing ring than the macro...

but talk about taking macro's convenience, the macro is still better, cos when u add a extension tube, nobody knows where the hell is the point to focus, as you lose your infinity as well as your guide to the distance of the object... whereas macro allows you to focus from a particular distance, like 50mm will be 5cm to infinity... more flexibility...

Yup not wrong..

Best Prime Vs best Zoom... well, Prime slightly better... (of course there are many things to consider, ie, convenience, weight & $$$).

AF speed, I don't think there are much different from a prime and zoom lens, if you are comparing the "G" series, excluding "Minolta 28-70 f2.8 G" its a dead horse when compare to newer D lens. hehee.. but sharpness... no horse run even its about 10+ years design.

Macro lens is always be better than lens+attachment... since Macro lens is build specifically for "MACRO" but the rest is optimised for Macro, that is the different.. but really, if end result is good and the later is not as sharp as Macro, what's the big deal?
