Sports photographer usually have a fix position on what they will shooting on that day. Let's just say, I am covering a soccer, I wouldn't be using a 80-200 (although I will still carry one with me) as the distance between the players and me would be at least a minimum 300mm - 400mm range. One reason is some action shots happend in the middle of the pitch. Some at the manager's seats.

Actually it's endless. So it depends on what you are covering. If it's a match between Man United and Liverpool (on Man U home ground) you will probably have to do a little research on both teams and match preview. Go look for our sports photographer JED (his CS nick). He covers sports such as cricket, soccer and rugby.

I use both primes and zooms in my work and don't have any real preference. Zooms (AFS mostly) are more convenient in my day bag and are all but indistinguishable from primes when used well. Prime wise I own and regularly use *every* major focal length Nikon has manufactured from 6mm f2.8 to 1200mm f11 including esoterics such as the 13/5.6, 300/2 and 10/2.8 OP FE.

Current day bag lenses: 10.5 DX, 12-24 DX, 17-35/2.8 AFS. 28-70/2.8 AFS. 80-200/2.8 AFS, 50/1.4, 28/3.8 PC Nikkor, 85/2 AIS, 105/2.8 AFn-D Micro, 8/2.8 FE, 16/2.8 FE, TC14E-II and TC20E-II plus assorted extension tubes. + any specific lenses required for the job at hand.

That is 1 m:f: heavy bag!!!

It sure is .. add a couple of D2x's or a D2x and pro film body, lightmeter, colour temperature meter, filters and holders, assorted batteries and so on and the bag rapidly hits 26kg.

I shudder to know how much all my kit would weight, over 900kg at a guess.

Lol, u are a walking camera shop by yourself...:bsmilie: :bsmilie:

currently using 20mm f2.8, 85mm f1.4, 105mm f2.8, 300mm f4.
and lonly one zoom lens 18-70mm.
my next target is fish eyes 10.5mm f2.8

Using Nikkor 50mm f1.4 (the only prime lens i have) and start to love it especially under low light condition. the sharpness and bokeh.

the legendary nikkor 300mm f/2 lens.

legendary in every aspect indeed, a 20 year old lens that blows away the competition today.

my personal suggestions for primes would be the 28/1.4, the 85/1.4 and the 200/f2

except that.. the 28 might just not be wide enough.. so maybe one can do with the 17-35/2.8 AF-S ED IF as well?

but to own the 300 f/2

oh my

goodness.

It really depends on what I'm shooting. Most of the time I shoot with zooms but there are specific occasions where primes are demanded. It really depends on the situation. For example, I will not bring a whole load of primes if I am going for a tour but I will definitely use primes if I am in a studio setup where I can exercise full control or in a theatre where fast lenses comes in handy for the lighting situation.

i really enjoy shooting with my 35f2 and 50f1.4, the colours, contrast and sharpness are excellent.

but am saving for a 17-55 for more versatility during those "on-the-go" shoots, e.g. wedding or event. hopefully, without compromising too much on the picture quality - expensive trade off!!
:hung:

also secretly saving in another piggy bank for a 85f1.4... okay, maybe just the 1.8!!!

Nikkor AF 24/2.8
35/2
50/1.4
85/1.8 all the time...

Hoping to get a 180/2.8 or even a (drool;p ;p ) 200/2 VR someday...

only a 50mm for me. wondering if I should add a 35mm.

going to buy my first prime tml~ 50mm 1.8 ;p;):sticktong

Anyone of u just secretly waiting for the Carl Zeiss primes to come out??

I am waiting in anticipation, but I dun think my pockets are gonna agree with me when they appear....

Got it! got my 50mm F1.8D from Lord's. ALL places sold out. Lord's got two, bought one, left one. SGD175 + Nikon NC filter SGD35 = 210.

And guess what. it is only the 4th day since i bought my D50. :nono:

If it goes on like 4days = 1 lens, 210, means that

one year will be spending (360/4) x 210 = 18900. and that's only 50mm's. :nono:

Hmmm.. that's very mild already... the last time BeachBoy met me at CP when he first bought his D70 kit.. he ended up leaving the shop with 50 f/1.8 and SB-800 as well on the spot... :bsmilie:
