DDE Nw selling 70-200 F4L IS at 1629! Is it a good buy ?

Recently just purchased a 7D, I would say... the focusing does improved alot with the Canon 18-200IS lens. Also had a hand-on using the combination for video recording. The range and IS does play an important role. :)

18-200 is great for outdoor with plenty of light but indoor without flash is kinda limited.

For indoor shots with the 18-200IS, I would normally adjust my lighting and avoid a hash shadow and get better skin tone -> http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/threads/481860-Canon-18-200mm-F3.5-5.6-IS?p=4975890#post4975890

Below is a shot taken by an entry crop with 18-200IS (EXIF can be found in the photo)

I have no doubt a 70-200F2.8IS on a FF would give you a better IQ -> http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/thre...N.O.A-Anson-Photography?p=6312332#post6312332

But they are on difference league.

Nice shot. The 18-200 does come up with good shots I agree but I am poisoned by the need for better IQ!

In that case, for Canon I would recommend L primes instead. To some Canon photographers I knew anything else is a compromise in IQ.

If you don’t mind shop warranty - YES

anyway given that most lenses do not fail within the 1st year of purchase, spending that extra $300-500 on original warranty is not really that worth it in my opinion... hence with DD's package with 1 year shop warranty, i would certainly go for it...

I agree. I bought a few grey set L lenses and it doesn't failed me all these years. Maybe I'm lucky I didn't get any lemons. So for me buying a grey set L lens at a cheaper price without the 1 yr local Canon warranty is alright. Can save a few hundred bucks for other things. Unless you need the local Canon warranty to calibrate your lenses at CSC. Other than that the shop 1yr warranty will cover manufacturer faults.

mine is definitely ef-s 17-55 f2.8 =D
