@ least insist on HK or CN warranty.. the product should authentic Canon product , not cheong one..

Unless one is frequently in HK or China, having a warranty valid only in those districts isn't really useful. If bought in Singapore, one can choose between 12-mth local warranty or 6-mths international, not sure if that applies to cameras bought in overseas. I wonder if can purchase extended warranty locally after that... why not call Canon Singapore to ask?

my primary concern for overseas is buy an authentic set, cos the quality of the product is there. HK and CN places must be careful of fake goods..

I met the Canon folks who were there to promote their cams. Basically we can check online for the authorised disty n go buy from them. As Suedu, it is better idea to chk with Canon SG how they will charge for servicing n stuff.

Hi all
I am newbie looking at either 400D or 30D. Read on line the 'problems' with 400D which are mainly underexposure and grip/handling for smaller asian hands. please advise based on my needs:
Landscape photos during vacation
Sports eg SEA games swimming; skiing shots
posed portrait photos
Second group of query regarding costs:
From the postings it seems that camera prices are significantly cheaper in Japan - any down side and are lenses similarly cheaper?
From the prices compared on site it looks like a better bbargain to purchase Kit II with 17 -85 mm lens rather than 18-55 lens. Is this accurate?
I have a a 28-105 (3.5 -4.5) so should I still get the any one of the above lens?
And i need a zoom lens. Why do the prices vary so widely between $350 to >1000? If i want good swimming competition shots at night what is the recommendation?
thank you.

For Japan sets, the warranty for SLRs in valid in Japan, accessories like lens and grips etc, are international warranty. You need to request for english instruction manual and request for tax rebate and additional discount if possible.

Comparing 17-85mm versus 18-55mm package is not so accurate. Buying in package is definitely cheaper than buying SLR and lens for this 17-85mm package.

Zoom lens prices depends on the many factors like focal length range, the aperture range or ef lens or ef-s lens.

for sports, most probably you need a telephoto lens, dpending on your budget. plus how far would u be sitting from the swimmers. If you are far, u need 300mm and up telephoto lens. You can buy consumer zooms up to 300mm or professional zoom ie L lens that costs thousands. You need bump up the iso so that you use faster shutter speed to capture the swimmer in actions.

For sports, i prefer to use 30D because of the high fps. =)

There is no international warranty for DSLR sold in Singapore. The only 2 places for DSLR to have warranty is India and China. This has been discussed numerous time so please do not mislead ppl.

In HK now. Wanted to get a 40D.

WIng Shing selling 40D with 17-50mm F/2.8 Tamaron Lens for HK$10880

Abt S$2000.

Worth it?

But my worries are is it worth paying for a Tamaron lens?

Alternative will be 17-40mm F/4 L.

That will be about S$2500 (include 40D).

WHich is better???

Am leaving on Friday, got to make a decision soon.

Pls help.

17-40mm is cheap and good professional lens for landscapes, wide angle group shots as well.

for tamron 17-50 f/2.8, it more versatile for landscapes, wide angle groups shots and portraits as well. Price is cheaper than 17-40mm.

f/2.8 versus f/4 doesn't make too much a difference unless f/4 versus f/1.8.

that's my take.

It actually depends on your needs. If I were to decide, I would go for Tamron as I like to take portrait and events. The Tamron's F2.8 would come in handy.

However, if you are concerned about Tamron's quality, go for L glass. Worse case can resell in B&S section if you don't like the lens.

The shop not bundling any other lens meh?

bundle with this ef-s 17-55mm would better than the tamron or 17-40mm.
a much versatile lens and f/2.8 and very gd image quality. =)

Thank you all.

I do not want an EF-S lens as I have plans to upgrade to FF.

So Tamaron should worth the $$?

value for money third party lens. =) if u dun mind the high price, i would rather get a 24-70mm. I would keep this lens for long term and save money on upgrading of lens.

Just bought my 40D 1 hr ago. Paid HK$8100.

Got the 17-40mm F/4L for HK$5200.

Good price?

the 40D is a gd price already. 17-40mm is cheaper than retail shop. best price locally for 17-40mm is 1080. u are still cheaper than SG.
