I think txv611 was just compiling some of the prices, I find it useful as a general guide for newbies. My 2 cents.:p

Thanks for your kind update. If only more would come out and share than just being passive reader.

Updated as at 18 March 06. With links attached to some prices for reference. Prices may be different according to condition of item and additional accessories included or missing parts etc. If the shops have quoted you a higher price maybe because they didnt like your face or attitude, please keep it to yourself. If you have also purchased a used camera for prices higher than listed here, please refrain from whining here. This is only a guide (YOUR price may be higher or lower).

Clubsnap is a great place to find "market" or "fair" prices. Many WTS threads and quite a few WTB thread, current to those past.

All you have to do is go to "search", or for any other that are interested. I have a few friends who joined as a newbies and straight went for the "search" function.:)

Waiting for the people here to upz this thread with the current prices will take a long time. If you really do not want to be passive, go "search" and find and posts these prices you claim can help all other newbies. Thereafter, let them upz this thread with more current prices.

I suspect whatever you do here despite all your good intenetions, the newbies will still ask "what is the best price NOW" kinda questions.

All the oldies already "search" for the current prices anyway.

Hi Caspere,

Your friends who are newbies may have went straight for the "search" function. BUT do you know many who did not and does not know how to? Can your friends' bahaviour and initiative be taken as the standard?

Look in the forums and you see that there are still always "How much is this cam now", "How much is that cam used..." going on. Even some forumers have wonder why there are no price guide for cameras WHEN there are price guides for lenses and accessories?

Some may still asked for the best price again. But with this guide, they can gauge for themselves if the price they got quoted from the retailers are good. For example, if I do not know the recent price for the 30D at all, how would I know if the retailer have quoted me a reasonable price?

BTW, I just did post links to the prices ...you just missed it. (See post #28)

VieVie as a newbie have feedback just a few post back here that he/she has found this thread to be useful. Enough said!

Hi txv611, I'm surprise at the number of protests against your good intentions here.

Guys, give the man a break... As a newbie myself, I find having a price gauge most useful. Yes, I had done a search on prices before and also did some calling... and I'm glad to find out that the price posted by txv611 is close to the inquires that I've gotten. Thus I know I'm being quoted fairly by shops.

Thanks for your effort and keep the updates coming...

prices keep dropping, no point in such a post..buyers can call up different shops themselves and get the latest quote.

i don't think the price guide will be constantly updated unless there's a kind soul willing to spend almost everyday checking for latest prices

It does not have to be updated everyday! Cant you see this is only a guide?????!!!! Not your stock price on your shares!

Please check up www.dictionary.com on the word "guide"

Thank you

I'm all for such a guide. It will educate buyers to what the best prices potentially are.

I'd also point out that the final transacted price on B&S forums are often not publicised. eg the actual sale price is often lower than the asking price. So we should take the price guide as a sort of 'upper limit' of what we should pay.
