Just bought 2 batteries for KM 5 [ At Change Alley ]
SDV-NP-400 7.2V 1800mah
But original started7.4V, will it cause any problem? safe?
Thanks.

I won't try actually... u automatically void your warranty if the battery shorts out your camera... it's not of the correct specified voltage...:nono:

I second TME. Wrong voltage ... may cause damage.

I agree 50% with you, the only thing I'm worried is the reliability of the brand rather than the voltage.

Thanks all for yr kind advise but 7.2 is still lower voltage than original 7.4,will it shorts?
Bought 2 for $65.

you will be more worried if it is over voltage than under.

i believe there's a tolerance range for the 7D, but not sure for the 5D.
the 7D batt grip has a AA batt tray that fits 6 of them. if i were to fit in 6 duracell or energizer batts which will be a total of 9v, it still works. on the other hand, if i were to fit in 6 rechargable batts which will be a total of 7.2v, it also works.

i need to get 2 more batteries, so whats the best brand in the market now? and where to get? many thanks... mine other 2 are east gear ones..

Dun worry... there is no battery the works on constant voltage. Essentially the voltage will drop when you drain it. Therefore most electronics are built with some voltage tolerance. The 0.2V diff should not be able to fry anything.

I cant find east gear anymore ley...
:dunno:

Bottom of KM 5D says "7.4V". Battery is 7.4V. External power source rubber protector says "6V".

So far I have tried using KM5D with the external DPS9000 battery pack for whole day shooting, no problem. It's rated at 7.2V, and plug into the external power source of the camera.

Most camera (or probably all good camera) have in-built voltage regulator that can handle a range of voltage. For 5D looks like it can safetly handle 6V to 7.4V.
