Price drop for Kx Body/Kit/200mm/300mm lens kit :)

Wah! I was at funan yesterday. All shop quote me around 950. How come 1 day dropped 150? Was comparing with canon 500D in AP, which quoted 100 more. Feel the 500D is better worth if just 100 difference. Now really difficult to decide which one to go!:dunno::dunno::dunno:

And why would the 500D be better worth it? It's not a better camera.
Well I guess could be because Ken Watanabe likes that brand

Thanks to rekria for the good news here:

Just made some calls to check on the price drop. Here are the confirmed deals:

K-x Body only: $745
K-x w/ DAL 18-55: $800
K-x w/ DAL 18-55 + DAL 50-200: $920
K-x w/ DAL 18-55 + DAL 55-300: $1140

All prices include GST, but no freebies (unless you ask the shop to throw in some ;)). These prices have been confirmed by Manly, but not by other shops yet. I'm guessing other shops have to follow these prices. Based on the experience w/ K-7 price drop, we will get these deals at even better prices :)

If you don't know where Manly is, you can check out our slightly out-dated price guide here:
http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=534146

The difference between these and K-7 price drop is: these are the future prices for K-x, while the K-7 price drop is only for CNY promotion.

Good luck and happy shopping.

I raising fund to get one :embrass::embrass: Its a real good deal

$950 comes with freebies (sanyo eneloop, charger and sdhc card), worth about $70. So now at $800, it is a drop of about $80. Anyway the drop is to match prices against overseas retailers like amazon so that the local distributor keep the local market instead of people buying from international sites.

k x is definately of much more worth than the 500D esp at present pricing

Good for those on the fence for the KX. But really a hit to the system for those that bought it previously...Ouch......Nevertheless, thats life.

Actually, did not quite understand the pricing strategy here. Understand that Pentax / Emjay have to manage the product life cycle pricing. But to have such a significant drop just 3 months after the introduction..hmmm strange. Expecting new competitive threats? new strategy??

Anyway,,the next time Pentax comes out with a new camera. More people will wait to purchse in anticipation of a price drop shortly from the launch.

Imagine the size of the next Pentax outing with the new owners of K-7 and K-X. :bsmilie:
Pricing strategy is "To grab as many user as possible before competitors come out with attractive product and price."

I mean if only 100 difference. 500D does has its strength. I don't compare just the high ISO. 500D has a superior LCD, the grip is bigger and overall the weight is lighter, the 18-55mm kit focus much quiter. The k-x kit is noisy as coffee grider. (not my word, see the photography magzine review)

I lean against k-x mainly for 2 things: the superior high iso and SR. The later I am not sure any ppl can give some feedback how effective compare to lense based shake reduction. If SR is good, I can use the Tamron 18-200mm, which is cheap (around 400 for second hand?), light and slim (only 400g, same weight as the pentex 55-300mm). This make k-x a very competitive travel kit. I have tried 500D with its 18-200mm kit. Really Heavy. I think the IS lense at least 200g more heavy than the non-IS.

So where can you get the cheapest Eneloops + Fast charger? And Cheapest Class 6 8GB ? --> To match back with the price with free gifts

Try Sim Lim Square.

Thanks for the good reference. I do like to hear some one who actually used tamron 18-200 or 18-250 on pentex SR body. Can you still get sharp picture at 200mm, say at 1/30 second?

ehrm, you need practice. and a tripod.

But I guess it's only me...

i don't know about the grip

but i will never use an overly light camera, the feel is wrong. if you had laid your hands on the k20d, you will know what i mean. :)

It really depends on what you value more. When I was deciding before whether to get the K10D or the K100D, a 400 difference. The main difference was the viewfinder and the ergonomics. I chose the K10D. To some it might not be worth the 400 difference, but to me it is.

Yours is much different though. Its choosing between a system. If there is one thing that got me sold on the the Pentax system, it was because of their pancake lenses and their in-body IS.

MHO, why the Kx is better :
1. Cheaper ($100, now $250 cheaper)
2. Longer term cheaper (ie. the lenses are cheaper and just as good)
3. The lenses are lighter and cheaper (esp. for the fast lenses)
4. On body SR (with the 500D you will pay for this for each lens)
5. Hi-ISO noise

500D larger grip - personal pref; unless looking larger means look better ;)

Higher Res LCD - No big deal actually. For looking at camera settings higher res makes no diff. For looking at pictures, we zoom in 8x or 10x to check sharpness only so not too important at 8x or 10x zoom-in. Higher res mainly makes small pictures look good on the review screen, so no big deal as I've said.

Lighter body - Does not always mean better. Sometimes, it will feel unbalanced with heavier lenses. Think of the possibility of more plastic as well (how come its bigger and lighter?)

On the heavier and larger C lenses, its not only the IS on the lens. Very often the C lenses have larger diameter optics which adds on to the size and weight.

I've noticed you are concerned about sharpness at 200mm hand held at low shutter speeds. My advice is to not rely too much on technology here. Correct technique is more important. Brace yourself and look for lens support; Use a higher ISO; Use a tripod if possible; Get closer and use a shorter focal length; Take at another time of day
These are more important, else you will end up disappointed whatever camera is being used.
Very often, 1/30 for example can be ok for camera shake, but your subject may move and you will have blurred shots that way.

My few cents..

Go down to eastgear. Known for competitive pricing on rechargeable batts and chargers (http://www.eastgear.com/).

If you can, avoid superfast charging. More heat generated shortens the life of your batts. Consider investing in a good charger like one of the Maha ones.

You can also buy at South Asia Computer at Funan. Bought mine for 50. Comes with 4 Imedion batteries.

I think everyone can see it from another perspective:

I would say many of us, (in fact i don't even think there are more than 10% of currently K-x owners active in Clubsnap had bought from Amazon) here may have the access or experience to Online Shopping, but definitely NOT to the first camera buyers or inactive online forummers. So, how much price competition do you think it had posed to Emjay?

This overseas price comparision is kinda of over-hyped.. Let's not think too deep into the equation, the most "direct" benefit to this promotion is definitely to attract more first-time buyers and also those who yearned for a spare body. There is of course another ideology of promotion = clear stocks, but unless you have insider info, there is NOTHING YOU CAN DO about it.

Lastly, anyone who prefers to buy from overseas/2nd hand markets, you are probably one who usually take advantage of the best deals, don't you think you provide VERY little attention to Emjay to make them throw a promotion for you? With or without promo, you can always source for better lenses/bodies deals anywhere in the world.

Erm, without body IS or lens IS, the viewfinder was shaking like mad. How does this source prove that either IS is not useful?

Regards,
gibss

I think he vaguely meant "everything is less useful compared to the in built SR(.. or IS) present in Pentax", and so posted the link to show how gd SR is.

The 2nd half of the video comparing Lens SR+Body SR vs Lens only SR vs Body only SR isn't really applicable here.
