Found quite a few lenses at Alan Photo ..... but selling for astronomical pricing.

However, it is quite understandable for the little amount of minolta lenses, minolta system is going slow, very slow, due to the fact of it's slow adoption of DSLR.

If Minolta had been fast in adopting a modern DSLR as in Canon or Nikon (RD175 not counted), chances are it's lenses will be selling like hot cakes too.....

Even CP carries very very limited stocks of Minolta lenses. It is a fact that Minolta owners have to live with. Hence there is need to source for lenses outside Singapore I suppose. Fact is, even if you wish to buy it in Singapore, you may still not be able to get what you want. It was once observed in photonet that Minolta does not get the same respect that Canon and Nikon gets in professional circles (can't remember the article tho). Even with the arrival of the 7D will things change in our favour? Imagine a newbie wishes to take up photography. Getting good reviews about it, he wanted to get one. However, besides the kit lens, there is little to offer. On the other hand, there are already a wide range of original and 3rd party lenses available for Nikon and Canon. Dun get me wrong. I love my Dynax 7 to death. However, I feel that there is little to entice new users (not to mention current ones) to adopt Minolta unless there is an access to lenses other than some kit lenses on offer.

that's very very sad isn't it? I mean, with the Minolta cameras being of such standard and such good value, and then we cannot find the right lenses to go with our wonderful cameras?!
but it's true that konicaminolta's marketing just doesn't stand up to that of canon (see the bus ads showing their range of lenses) and nikon...
what can we do, as minolta users?

Look on the bright side, minolta users had less lenses to 'tempt' them. So made do with what you have to shoot in all kind of situations.

Perhaps start a loan/rental system to help one another minolta users out?

We are a rare group of people. I believe we must help push for the product we use also.

How many times have you heard minolta users saying that the brand is not really that fantastic compare to other brand.

Few years back I went to view a lens offer thru asiaone classfied. Its an old trading co. office in building at Chinatown.

This 50+ years old managerial position person used Dynax 9, a few Tokina pro series lens. Said he's changing system so selling off all his minolta system.

His reason. He was encouraged by another colleague that N offer better product range..........this I agree.

I was about to ask him when his exhibition will be coming up?

Anyway I didn't buy anything from him.

Buying a pro range product makes a person feels like a pro even if its just a hobby.

But suddenly realise that the pros out there seldom use M...but N & C.

Seeing that the equipment doesn't give the pro satisfaction. People decide to switch system as Minolta is already offering its top camera.

That is Thinking about the Box. :bsmilie:

We must be proud of the equipment we use. It provide a platform which I can make a photographic stand.

Its what I say that matters to capture attention of the audience, not the size of the stage.

Anyway I'm just a hobbyist. No need the "Pro" system :blah:

We should tell people why we want this system. So in other words we are also creating a larger consumer base.

If buy something I like, I will certainly intro to people around me.

Word of mouth is much much better than advert. So must watch what words we say.

The more you condemn your brand, the less people buy. Then the law of demand & supply will show.

Hmm...very true..I get sadden when I cant find e lens i wan but can find e nikon or canon lens in abundance. Guess someone said it rite..working with wat u have will a more versatile shooter.. ;)

When something is difficult to get.....the more you will treasure it.

how to get 2nd hand lenses this way. So always damn hard to buy second hand. Guess that include 3rd party lenses.

Ya..even 3rd party lens are hard to find..
Maybe when e dslr comes out the situation will brighten up???..

its true... cant really find the lense already.... i am using an old x700... i can only get 2nd hand lens from overseas... just afraid that 1 day minolta will lost its footing in singapore....

anyway side track, any filter system that the x700 can use? :dunno:

Don't know what to say, just want to part of this.. haa

Given a choice, I will choose Dynax 7 anyday against any N or C Pro SLR.. its an trusty old friend to me now :).

I haven't got any new lens recently, since my collection has served me well. But did notice that the range of new/old lenses are getting lesser nowadays compared to 2-3 years ago. Wonder where they've gone.. :(

Hi.
I've never used the minolta system B4, & would like to ask some newbie qns.

Are there any minolta lenses whereby the quality is as good as Canon L series?
Is the focusing fast?

Not trying to starta flame, but wanna know more about minolta. :)

Hi AReality,

Which brand has a share of great and dog lenses depends on the price you willing to pay :D.

I've never tried a telephoto lens, but I can't tell much difference in AF speed of common lenses of N, C, P and M's. But USM lens will definitely be much much more quiet than Minolta.

Not trying to starta flame, but wanna know more about minolta.

IMO, Minolta has great optics (like the rest), fantastic bodies (like Dynax 7, 5) at reasonably low price. Its known to have good flash system too!

Just beware.. Marketing Sux! And see the title.. owner can't find lenses :D

So lets say a pro has a pro SLR body, & many L lenses.
And if he is to switch to minolta, can he get the same type of performance, in terms of AF speed, picture quality?
Assuming $$ is not of a concern.

AF speed..... used to be that Canon has the edge over Minolta. But with the release of the SSM lenses, I think there are no obvious differences now.

Picture quality... Minolta G lenses are equal to anything that Nikon or Canon has. However, Canon makes certain special L lenses (like those 800mm or 1000mm f4 monsters) that minolta does not.

In fact, there are certain things that Minolta does that is better than Canon.

Wireless flash system, user interface and... if you want to be really nickpicky, Minolta's top camera has a faster shutter speed than Canon's (1/12000). It also has a very useful built-in flash many pros scoff at.

So if a pro switches from Canon to Minolta, he actual lose very little if anything at all.

I once read an article about how Canon and Nikon users would brag about the range of lenses and the performance of their best lenses. But the problem is not many people can afford it in the first place. If I am a pro who handles a wide range of different assigments, C and N are obvious choices simply because it is easier to find places who rent them. But as an enthusiast my needs are less specialised and frankly, most of my needs are readily met by Minolta. The only problem is the availability of the lens. Frankly, how many of us have seen a G lens in shops recently? Even the simple purchase of a new VC-7 is a real trial. Anyway, I always associate Minolta with Apple - great products but rare since few people use them. Imho, I think it is best if we can source Minolta as a group and mass order from overseas. Right now, I can only wait till I go overseas and see if I get a chance to find what I need.

I do sympathise with Minolta users in Singapore......

Over in Asia, Canon and Nikon are really the brands to own....not that people
are blind and are followers, the merits for using them are really for practical reasons....cheaper support, availability of parts, lenses etc, easier to source / sell, and not forgetting good camera / lens performance.

I have pondered on buying Minolta on several occasions and each time have
decided to let it pass, even though they produce excellent high-end stuff, beginning with Dynax 7 upwards and APO lenses. On the digital end, the 7Hi
was good stuff but also lacking support to build on the system.

The main reason is that of tech support, lack of support from retailers in buying stuff and re-sale market.

If there is anyone out there from Minolta reading this, please do something about it.... Minolta has good stuff (even scanners) but little is done to shout about it. It would be a pity when they eventually reach the stage of Ricoh or Contax.....

For the remaining users of Minolta out there, please continue to take gr8 pictures to inspire the rest of us...

Cheers

Haha~! They're marketing is like Apple in the good old days. :D

Anyway, I think there are quite a few places trying to clear 3rd party lenses for Minolta. In fact, just gotten a sigma 28mm/1.8 at a cheap cheap price. But, the situation does look kinda bleak! :(

Wat lens? think there are enough lenses for minolta already. 1 x Wide Angle Zoom, 1 x Standard Zoom, 1 x Long Zoom, 1 x Ex-Long Zoom. Good enough for me..... abundances of Third party lenses too.
