Check batteries first. I find that when the batteries are weak, there are problems with the lens operation. Did not have this issue with my S1. Back then, the camera will just not work. Now, with the S3, it works but erratically.

Bought my S3 in Sept 06 with the price of 799 with 2 free 512mb cards . with extended 2 years warranty

Maybe just one of the lemons. Anyway the camera really got a lot of functions to play with. Still exploring it.

I got the Raynox wide angle lens but when I use the flash, it will leave a dark shadow around the middle bottom of the photo. Is there a slave flash which can be attached to it as per what the manual mentioned (e.g HF-DC1?)? But the HF-DC1 only can fire directly and I wonder in the camera shops got something which function in a similar way BUT can point or swivel up and down the flash so that the subject won't be overexposed by the flash. Sometimes can be frustrating as the subject is super bright and the background dull...really looks weird. :dunno:

By the way, any other brands like Canon, Nikon, Sunpak and etc..which can act like a slave flash? Vivitar website don't show flash units. They only sells cameras and vid cams.

Hi, I've been using S3 for a while now. I took many photos with the built-in flash but I hate the white-out or 'fake light' look on subjects that the build-in flash creates?

I read some posts and found that you need a diffuser for flash. But those diffusers are for external flashes. I'm wondering if there is any way I can use a diffuser on a pop-up flash like the one on the S3??

Also, if there is a need for a slave flash, how to attach the slave flash together with the camera? Or do I need to be holding both the camera and the slave flash?

Any advice would be much appreciated. :)

Correction to my earlier post:

The S3 IS is compatible with SDHC cards.

diffusing flash ? you can use the cheapest method.. cover your flash with tissue paper..

as for the slave flash issue, although there is no way to mount on top of your pop up flash..
the Canon HF-DC1 "high powered flash" that is supposed to be a flash accessory for your S3 IS, it has an included bracket that can be attached to your tripod mount..
