I saw some of your photos taken with minimal light. Did you use a tripod or without one? From the size of the photo, it doesn't look that bad (if compared with the Nikon 5700 which I have =.=!!) . E.g if i were to refer to your photo IMG_0597, when print at 4R size, will it look smudgy? Or it look as per wyswyg?

All photos taken without tripod. Because I haven got one yet. :embrass:

Those photos no resize no crop.. is original from my camera. Because I still new to using software on my photos. :dunno:

Regarding" will it look smudgy?" I ain't sure because I din print out my photos.. lol
Sorry think I cant reply much on your last few question. Wish others can help...

:dunno: I think it is a business decision on the choice of processor....some possible reasons may be:

1. A better processor may increase the cost of the cam
2. The 1 2 squeeze user to buy the Camcorder....I am not sure if Nikon coolpix has better video capabilities, given that they dun have Camcorder in their product range....

I see what you're saying about the processor encoding not keeping up with input and the buffer slowly filling. But does it really make sense that they would accidentally choose an encoding processor that couldn't keep up with the inflow of data?

If I am Canon, i will convieniently capped it at 1GB, incase users came back and complaint about inconsistency in the during of filming with 1GB card.....sometimes users are difficult to handle, if you have handle real users before, some are really unreasonable and expect everything to be "idiot-proof", so that they can use them without much effort to think and calculate....this could be 1 reason....I am not sure though...:dunno:

Also, isn't MJPEG a lossy format? So it seems odd that while encoding video it would stop at 1GB each and every time. In theory, it should stop either above 1GB or below 1GB depending on the subject being filmed if the limitation were truly because of a slow video encoder. Somebody setting the camera on a tripod and filming a blank wall shouldn't run into any sort of filesize limitation if the encoding processor is truly the bottleneck.

Actually my Ixus 500 after it got its CCD replaced/repaired (FOC) now got this kind of problem as well. Previously, when it was okay, it doesn't have those white streak of light I(mine also have one dark streak as well). Though you can see it on the LCD, but after the picture is captured, it won't be shown. Not sure what caused this though.

Hi HappyFlic. I finally got my S3IS last saturday after thinking through about it for a month. Cool camera with tons of functions. Now have to understand some of the functions. By the way, as for the compression, you normally use which one? Super Fine, Fine, Normal?

Hope to hear from you again. This topic is kinda cool off. lols...

Super Fine, Fine and normal is the compression of the JPEG, the pixel count will be the same as whatever resolution you set. With cheap SD card, i would suggest that you shoot in super fine. More so if you 1 2 print to larger format and do PP.:)

Hi Lasboltnut, have you try using Raynox Wide angle lens? the 0.66 one? Just want to hear out some real life users who have purchased this item. :)

See this thread at post #27 for comments of the WA from real S3 users from CS. I did not buy WC/TC for my S3 back then....:embrass:

By the way lasboltnut, have you come across tripod adapters which comes as a plate with a standard tripod male screw on one side and the other is a female internal thread? I am worry that the S3 plastic tripod mount might get damage after prolong mounting onto the tripod. My current tripod the ballhead is fixed onto the tripod.

I know market got those type which can mount permanently on the camera and when required can just slot it in via the dovetail male or female component which is part of the mount.

That's a tripod quick release. You can see one in this thread.

Hi Bridgerock, great that you have your S3IS.. for your question, because i might be have large print out so for safety purpose I use super fine all the time. But I'm still new to PP (other than re size) , so most the time I just snap and paste... :bsmilie:

Havent got my tripod and macro lens yet. Thinking will look out after my exam  .....
