Zooming in movie mode is quiet as new.

Fast zooming is louder than new and in fact, louder than my old G3. I guess i will be heading down to habour front on tuesday after work and see what the service people say.

HabourFront isn't exactly near. Maybe I should live with it? Just a louder zooming noise. Lens works ultra quiet in movie mode. I will see how again. Don't want to go all the way there and they say it's fine.

Does Canon provide lens maintainance (lens cleaning, oily of lens parts) for Prosumers?

what is the market price now?

include memory card, tripod, case ?

S3 IS is a fixed lens cam what kit lens you talking about. This not the Fuji S3 thread, this is the Canon S3 IS thread

Hi guys, can I ask a stupid qtn. Heard from my friends that pics taken by SLR will deteriorate after certain amount of shuttercounts and its not worth replacing the shutter. More worth it to change the camera. Will a fixed lens prosumer digi cam suffers from it as well ?

Mine already 1 year old no such issues.

No. The S3 is not an SLR and has a non-moveable CCD. There is a mechanical shutter which will last as long as your camera last. The wear and tear is much much minimal compared to an DSLR or SLR.

You can purchase the extended 24 months Canon Warranty for $70 (within 14 days of purchase) or $90 (at least one month from date of expiry) from Canon to safeguard your camera or purchase any extended warranty from the Super Stores (Harvey Norman).

The lens on the S3 is non-removable.

S3 Pro has not kit lens offerings either.

Thanks for the ans. So I can conclude that for DSLR and SLR pics quality DO degrade after frequent usage rite (high shuttercount) ? What is the difference between the 2 shutter mechanism ?
Then what is the reason that the shutters for SLR/DSLR will degrade while prosumer camera's shutter such as cannon S3 or Sony R1 last forever ?

The picture quality of DSLR and SLR will degrade.... no..

For dSLR, due to the wear and tear of the mirror slap, the shutter will wear out and fail to work after 50k shots or more. It can be replaced at the Canon service centre for >$200.

I have yet to hear of the CMOS (Sensor) failure.

For film SLR, i guess if the film is stored in the camera for a long period of time, it's quality will degrade. I don't see how the shutter will degrade the film or picture quality over time.

Maybe you would like to post a new thread in the Canon forum as the dSLR and SLR users would be able to provide better explaination. They might not come into the S3 thread.

There will be no shutter failure (very very rare) on a Compact/Prosumer/PnS (alot of names for non-SLR digital cameras lah). :)

However, the CCD/CMOS size of a prosumer will produce inferior picture quality and noise level when compared directly to a dSLR.

:)

Sorry, I meant optional accessories:

• Tele-converter 1.5x lens (TC-DC58B)
• Wide-converter 0.75x lens (WC-DC58A)
• Lens Adapter/Hood Set (LAH-DC20)
• Close-Up Lens 500D (58mm)

I think the promotion is ending tomorrow (15/7). That's what the Cannon lady told me when I bought mine last month.

Don't think you can find a place that will sell you cheaper without the freebies, since the cost value of these gifts isn't much (I'm speaking in view of the cost price, not retail price).

If you have already fixed your eyes on a S3IS, I would suggest that you buy it now or LOSE it (the gifts).:)

The freebies are not from the shop, they are from Canon. So will not make a difference to the shop if you do not wnat the freebies.

Song Brothers seem be getting competitive. Your price of $735 is inclusive of GST?
