I have already bought the extended warranty.

oic. yar. half-press shutter button is not affirmative enough for my liking. the shutter buttons in the Ixus and G/Pro series are very sturdy and affirmative. Well, i'm intending to buy the extended warranty and will use the camera until something happens... i'm sure one day it will get stuck because of it's shallow feedback.

I also bought the extended warranty. As I said before, I think the S3 build quality is not very good compared to the S1. The S1, although made of plastic, had a solid look and feel. The S3 feels much more plasticky. I dunno about the S2 as I don't own it.

Hi guys, I just joined the S3 club as well !
Bought my camera last week from SLS "Song bothers" at $750 nett.
It comes with
1) a cannon nlyon bag (wif cleaning kit and mini tripod)
2) 512mb kingston SD
3) 8 AA size rechargeble batt and a GP rechargable batt kit

Actually i was quite surpised that i was quoted a lower price at Song bro than at MS colour or alan photo. Guess they are no longer the cheapest shops around.

The sales person at song quoted me a reasonable for the original cannon lens adapter but later found out he got no stock Went quite a few shops around SLS and the lowest quoted was 50. The chiong metal ones are selling at 36bucks but later we discovered it cannot support S3.

I am planning to get a tele lens as i am more into taking animals (including ppl )
So now considering whether to get the original tele cannon 1.5X ($200++)
or the chiong type 2.0X($165) or 3.0X (>$200+++)
Being a greedy person, I would opt for the cheaper and higher magnificant chiong lens. But the prob is, will the higher magnificiant affects the quality of the pics ?
I believe 1.5x is the recommended magnification by cannon else they would have produced higher mag lens..
Anyone got any ideas ??

I held my colleague's S3 and it did not feel flimsy at all. How come some of the new owners are complaining of these ? Man, must go ask Canon about the QC liao.

No No. I am not saying the S3 is flimsy. It is still good. But compared to the S1 (and possibly the S2), the quality has dropped.

I had the S1 for several years. The S1, compared to the S3, looks and feels more solid. For example, the mode dial at the top. On the S1, it is also made of plastic. But it looks solid and feels solid. For the S3, I was surprised that it looked like a cheap plastic piece with plastic rivet in the centre. Not shiok. The other buttons also feel like some kind of remote control buttons. If you have held the S1 and used it before, you will know what I mean.

I still love my S3, but I wished that the built quality is slightly better. Dunno whether it is due to change of factory. I am certain the S1 was Made in Japan. Not sure about the S3.

Yes. Build Quality.

The main body is solid. No creaking. Twist & Turn LCD is ok, though not as solid as my G3 still. The 4 way controllor button needs to be improved. As for the the shutter button, it's unacceptable. Half-press don't feel like half-press.

Even my budget Panasonic LZ2 at $299 has a more tactile half-press. To some, the S3 feels good but if you compare it to the G/Pro and other brand's prosumer... you might feel a little lacking. Of course, i bought my G3 brand new at $1230. S3 at $753.

Well, I can't do much to the buttons and the camera except to start shooting now.

i just collected mine yesterday. i staple my receipt with the warranty card and they stamped "Redeemed" on both receipt and the warranty card.

Once you disable the "Safety Shift" u'll have full control.

Shutter Speed is for you to control if you want a "freeze image" at a higher shutter speed e.g: 1/1000 or a "smooth" image at a slow shutter speed e.g: 0.4 - 1.

Aperture controls the DOF. For a group shot, to have more people in focus, choose a smaller aperture, e.g: F8. For a macro or portrait shot, you use a larger aperture, e.g: F2.7 to focus the subject and blur the background.

Collected my 512MB SD from Song bro itself only thing is they haf to retain my warranty card for about 3 weeks. After which they will mail it back to me back after they done wif the paperwork. Sort of like an added service to save customer the hussle to go all the way down to harbour front :thumbsup: :thumbsup: ! Furthermore, the sales person Stefan even made the effort to run around other shops to help me source for the lens adaptor as they have ran out of stock. Very impressed by his commitment!! :thumbsup:

And when he called me call this afternoon that the lens adapters have arrived, I was surpised cuz i narrowmindly presumed he was just paying me lip service when he promised me last week to inform me

He had totally changed the preception i had about song bros. His customer service is miles better than the one at Audio house (2nd lvl,) who has the cheek to quoted me $10 more for the S3

Didnt expect such friendly and personal customer service to be found at the notorious :bigeyes: SIM LIM SQUARE

I paid 50 bucks for the original lens adaptor. Was comparing the 2.0x chiong lens and the original cannon 1.5x lens. Chiong len selling at $90 but its abit out of focus compared
to the original lens(quoted $180).

Didnt buy any lens cuz someone selling his 2nd hand lens at a lower price. ;p
