Hi,
I just bought my S3 IS.
My feedback of the S3 IS is pretty positive except for the "loose" half-press shutter button. It's much tactile on my G3 as it affirms the half-press locked-on better than the S3 IS.
The 4-way controllor is also a little too flimsy for my liking as it doesn't give much feedback on whether the buttons are depressed or not. Same goes for the "set" & "menu" button.
On the whole, the camera performs very well in terms of speed and image shooting.
The adjusting of MF focal lenght is quite a hassle because u need to concurring manage two buttons at the opposite ends but this is necessary as the S3 does not have a dedicated Focus-Lock button.
I would prefer a dial so that the 4-way controllor can be used to adjust Exposure and WB, like on the G & Pro series.
Well, i'm happy with the S3 on the whole. I got it because I couldn't find a suitable prosumer camera that matches everything on the G/Pro series with warranty & DIGIC II (Much faster operations).
I guess I'll slowly get used to the buttons as it's only a matter of time.
The USM is really quiet. I kinda miss the "focusing" sound made by the lens on my G3, at least it's affirmative. now all i hear is a quick "beep". haha!
I will keep the S3 IS until the Pro 2 or until at least a Canon dSLR body has got IS and dust control in place.
For anyone considering this camera, you won't be disappointed if you're coming from an automactic PnS. If you have used the G/Pro series, you might want to consider jumping over or at least wait till the G/Pro replacements are here. RAW, E-TTL, Dial control, Dedicated WB, Ev and hopefully ISO button would be extremely useful.
*For me, my deciding factor between a dSLR and a Prosumer is that I don't have the funds for new lens, nor time to maintain a dSLR and dust problems and not ready for the hefty weight just yet.
Hope this helps.
Keep shooting!
