Hands on very much faster. Manual only if you get confused/stuck. Go shoot pics and post. We will help guide one another and learn from one another

noted... will try to hands on... play more.. than can post...
Thanx...

Guys,

I did a rough calculation of the S3 Hyperfocus distant. At 36mm and f/stop at 8, the hyperfocus is roughly at 32.4m. So to take landscape pic, if the lighting permits, set to the above setting, focus an object at about 32.4m away and re-frame your pic and there, anything from 0.5 Hyperfocus (16.2m) to infinity will be in focus!

Hope this helps the community on taking landscape!:)

Enjoy!

Why not just set the focus to infinity?

I think the foreground object may be blur? I understand that with hyperfocus, it is the max DOF of a camera, so this ensures all objects in the scenary be in focus.

Hi

Came back from my Bintan trip. I have taken some pictures with my S3 using P mode, however I am not impressed. Must be due to my poor photography skill.

This is my 1st digital camera from Canon and I must say I have yet to get use to the Canon format. I have read the manual but sometimes do not really get the message. Guess the best way is to take more pictures and correspond with fellow S3 users to get to know the equipment better.

I have yet to sign up for the "Digital Camera Session" by Canon. How good or useful is this session? Fellow S3 users please comment.

Regards :)

Hi,

Cannot tell much as I haven't attend the course. Heard it teaches all the manual says, so I think it's a good course to save time on reading the manual...

By the way, anyone uses fill-in flash technique?? Can S3 built-in flash do that? I think can right as we can set the flash power somehow....but I am not too sure. Any tips?

Haha. I use Auto mode 99% of the time and am very satisfied with my pictures. The only settings that I experimented sometimes are "off flash" and "beach" mode.

hi, unless you are new to photography, should be no problem in p mode.
maybe you can post something to let us see wat you mean :)

anyway, i've saw the S3 at PC show, but just still feel the LCD screen too small.

S3 users, what do you feel ? :sweatsm:

That's a waste of a perfectly good camera! ;p

What would a comfortable screen size be then?

Actualy I love to use the ViewFinder....but i find that the resolution is not too ideal for me....cannot really see which part of the picture is actually in focus......

Just curious, is DSLR viewfinder optical or electronics??

One way to have your pic being focus, what you can do is focus about one third to yhe scene. then compose your pic and press the shutter..

However, in the viewfinder, you will find some blur in your background but when the shutter is pressed, all will be in foucs..

try it.. cos it worked

The viewfinder in a SLR and DSLR is optical, through the lens. You see exactly what you are going to shoot. I believe that is one of the distinguishing features of a SLR. In a SLR-like camera like the S3, the image in the viewfinder is electronically created. Resolution is lower. It may also react slower to view changes.

O yah, for scenary shoot that is. But how do you judge 1/3 when you are shooting infinity?

Thanks.

Yah, still like the SLR feeling when I used to play with my bro's Nikon......hopefully one day compact cam can do manual focusing by twisting a ring around the lens like SLR. I mean why not? It is just a matter of designing an encoder there.....;p
