obviously 0cm is nt really true.. if it is, u can take e dusts on ur lens already. it's abt. 3cm..
depends on e telephoto converter.. if it is 1.5x, den it 12x times 1.5. so abt. 18x zoom.. 600+mm focal length.

for the adventurous ones you might consider trying the old G5 trick (at your own risk hor!)

on the g5 the minimum focusing distance was 15cm. you can physically turn the lens barrel and get it down to about 5mm from the front of the lens!

yeahz.. i agree. it's alittle awkward holdin e S2/ S3 wif e slave flash attached to it.. esp. for macro.
And as the flash is attached to one side of the camera, hanging the setup from a neck strap keeps making the setup tilt one side. Quite awkward... :(

well, I used to have a SpeedLite 550EX on my G5. The flash is bigger than the camera itself so it keep tilting forward ;p

Sounds better than tilting sideways hehe. :D

If you have an S3 already then clearly slave is the only choice. If you are still looking, then bear it in mind. A slave does not have ETTL metering and it is no fun trying to manage the kludge. Actually my post was specifically for DRAC.

hwchoy,
Thanks for all your infos esp the part abt flash ;) Now I should tink carefully abt getting one of this.....btw (ignore my Ignorance pls), must the slave flash be mounted by the side of the camera or can it be mount using some offshoe/cable?? using brackets?

Night288,
Thanks for your offers, waiting patiently for your pics ;p

eh, the S3 is not a DSLR lah. it is a digital compact camera, has a fixed lens, and an electronic shutter. on the plus side, you get much deeper depth-of-field, no wear and tear on the shutter (can switch off the sound even), and composition on the LCD.

as for zooming. the fixed lens is capable of 432mm focal length (equivalent of 35mm format), which is quite a lot of zoom already. a tele-convertor typically add about 40-75% (1.4 - 1.75x not sure about the one meant for S3), which means you could get a whopping 750mm telephoto equivalent.

Opps... sorry, that y i say i'm noob... :embrass:

I'm still considering btw S3 and 350D. :dunno: which one to get.
As i dun wan to spent too much on camera,S3 is a good choice for me.
And also e flip out LCD screen and running on 4xAA batt is wat i want too.

actually it is no problem at all. your wife will probably graciously let you use the new camera, and take away your DSLR/extension-tube for herself :sweatsm:

there are mounting brackets but the real kludge is how to attach the slave sensor to your pop-up flash, and also how to block the direct flash itself.

it seems you are not familiar with the differences between a digicam and a DSLR. it does not automatically mean a DSLR is "better" than a digicam, it depends on what you want to do. if you have friends with such gear you could get them to show you the details. or you might pop over to chit chat subforum there are a number of newbie chit chat threads they always have outings and you can go along and look look see see their equipment loh.

one thing for sure, a real DSLR is a blackhole for $$

yup yup... u r right. i know nuts abt camera...:embrass:
Started with Canon IXUS V3 in 2003, thinking of upgrade to something else...
Aware that DSLR will burn a hole in my pocket... When saw S3, was wah... something fit into my pocket without burn a hole...
But fren keep advise me to get 350D as he own a 300 and he's very happy with it.

Think i will go for S3 instead of 350D... Thanks for the advise...

its OK to know nuts :)

I moved from a G5 to a 20D. my daughter now uses the G5. For casual shot, she could easily get a prettier pix on that G5 in auto mode, than me fiddling with all the lenses and settings

I just got mine from Harvey Norman for a total of $859.
o $799 for the S3 + two 512MB SD cards (1 from Canon) + dry case + one 4AA GP rechargable pack + Canon digital kit
o $60 for two years extended warranty + free another two years (total 5 years warranty haha kiasi)
Would have enjoyed a 5% discount if I use my Harvey Norman card but opted for a 24-month interest-free instalment payment. Worked out to be about $1 everyday for two years.
That is very good deal. Can share where you got your deal ?

Hi every1,

Was told by a friend that this store quoted him $725 + 512SD card, collect from Canon.

Letona Dept Store, Orchard Plaza.

Can anyone confirm this and anyone care to share their experience with this store?

Thanks

Have to get used to it unless you can get the handle that can tower over the cam called a C bracket.

mind if i ask - is the camera case water-resistant?

how much do i have to pay if just buying the camera case? (i presume you bought it together with the new S3 and hence got a cheaper price).....

This bag is exactly the same as the LowePro Edit 100, which can be bought from CP for around $20 or less.

My wife is very interested in this new S3 and she is more into taking macro shots of insects and flower (really close kind).

Any kind  soul willing to share your macro shot please :bsmilie: I would like to see how the pic looks like before secretly buying one for her.

Thanks in advance!!!

0cm macro shots from the S2. Will be same for the S3.

0cm means how far away is the subject?

This price is most definitely before GST. See my post #93 on page 5 on the various pricing tactics adopted by shops. The price that we are paying at MS or AP is $755/$760 after GST.

In front of lens mechanism. You poke the lens barrel to your subject and take the pic. But if you look closely, the internal mechanism actuall moves back a little to take the actual shot.
