Basically what we can do with non-auto functions and some basic digital photography techniques like focus lock, shutter & aperture priority.
Sure, one can pick it up from the manual but I was like trying out everything the trainer was saying and asking a lot of questions. The session was definitely a lot more useful than trying to fiddle with the camera using the manual.
Of course, it would be ideal if there is a practical session but that would probably stretch the whole training to midnight! :)
Anyway, hope they would have a separate practical session. Perhaps can join their canongraphers outing.
icic.. u can always organize one wif e fellow S3 users. seein dat so many of them are still fiddlin wif their new toy..

Yes, joining a Canongraphers outing will be beneficial to you as everyone there will be able to share knowledge, experiences, etc. with everyone else during that time. Also, one will be able to 'test drive' other pieces of hardware that you might not own.

That's a GOOD deal.

My wife is very interested in this new S3 and she is more into taking macro shots of insects and flower (really close kind).

Any kind  soul willing to share your macro shot please :bsmilie: I would like to see how the pic looks like before secretly buying one for her.

Thanks in advance!!!

:embrass: Actually, I am also into Macro but I am using reverse lens with extender with a DSLR and she *wow* at the pics tat I took.

She did try on her newly acquire IXUS but I think you know that it is not that great and thats why she is thinking about getting a PROSUMER cam to try.

Any pics from brothers here please ;p

you may need to get an adaptor and some close-up filters. this one is taken with the G5 with +9 close-up. fish is about 10mm long.

I just realise this camera does not have a hotshoe. do keep this in mind as really close-up macro typically require hotshoe or offshoe flash because the lens adaptor is blocking the coverage of the pop-up flash.

You may wish to conside the PowerShot G6 instead.

yeahz.. a gd idea u've gt dere. prosumer macro simply blows e ixus ones away.. i suggest u get a close-up lens together wif e prosumer camera.

dere is always a slave flash to turn to..
but i agree.. e adapter does bock e flash. so e bottom part is always in shadows.. esp. so when u use a low flash.

If you have an S3 already then clearly slave is the only choice. If you are still looking, then bear it in mind. A slave does not have ETTL metering and it is no fun trying to manage the kludge. Actually my post was specifically for DRAC.

Hi guys, I'm new (noob) :embrass: here and i will be getting S3 soon(My 1st DSLR).

Jus some Q be4 i get my S3....
Jus wonder S3 capable of taking 0cm macro, izzit a need to get close-up lens?
And with the 12X zoom, if i were to get the Telephoto lens, how much do i can i zoom in?

Thanks......

eh, the S3 is not a DSLR lah. it is a digital compact camera, has a fixed lens, and an electronic shutter. on the plus side, you get much deeper depth-of-field, no wear and tear on the shutter (can switch off the sound even), and composition on the LCD.

as for zooming. the fixed lens is capable of 432mm focal length (equivalent of 35mm format), which is quite a lot of zoom already. a tele-convertor typically add about 40-75% (1.4 - 1.75x not sure about the one meant for S3), which means you could get a whopping 750mm telephoto equivalent.

obviously 0cm is nt really true.. if it is, u can take e dusts on ur lens already. it's abt. 3cm..
depends on e telephoto converter.. if it is 1.5x, den it 12x times 1.5. so abt. 18x zoom.. 600+mm focal length.

yeahz.. i agree. it's alittle awkward holdin e S2/ S3 wif e slave flash attached to it.. esp. for macro.
