:embrass: :embrass: Ooops my bad, yea he said Sony sensor. And also that a CMOS is better than a CCD. So,I should go for the Canon.

But well I'm inclined towards the Nikon only. And well have to wait really long if I wanna put down the entire cash. Student's stipend doesnt pay much  By the way, there is an IT fair coming up in March. Will it make sense to wait?

CMOS is a newer technology but that doesn't mean it is better than CCD. If you play with projector, DLP is newer and at one stage, it seems it gave better picture than LCD projector but the present crop of LCD projectors in fact outperform some DLPs. Nothing stands still and will always improve. As long as the camera gives you pictures, does it make any difference whether it has a CMOS or CCD sensor.

Ha ha well said my man.... well said. What do you think about the CMOS/CCD thing?

CMOS sensors are faster and cheaper to produce, that's why Canon is able to have full frame DSLRs (e.g. Canon 1Ds Mark II, which has a sensor size =35mm film, but costs >S$10k for body only!!!), while Nikon has yet to come out with a full frame DSLR.

To me, CCD and CMOS doesn't really matter - It's for the techies (which I am sometimes, depending on whether I have the time or not  ) What matters most to end-users like us would be the picture quality of the final print or picture when viewed on the monitor. Try telling anyone viewing your pics about CMOS vs CCD, and u'll divert their attention away from those nice pics u took on your holiday :nono: .

Frankly, I don't think we should bother la... Just buy what u like by gutfeel  , because both Nikon and Canon are good. Don't be affected just because a Canon lover tells u Canon is better. There is an equal number of Nikon fans who will tell u why Nikon is better. If u like Nikon, then go for it. If u buy Canon now even though u don't really like it, but because some Canon fan tell u to, I'm sure u'll regret it in no time at all.

Ok done enquiring. This is the price list from my enquiries:

1. Harvey Norman - 2288$ with 0% installment available

2. Courts - 2288$ without 0% installment, they have 3%

3. Alan - 1930$ without installment, 6% for installment

4.Cathay - 2010 with 0% installment

Couldnt catch hold of the person at Lord's.

Well the interesting thing is that the person at Courts told me to buy the Canon as compared to Nikon. He says the Nikon is using Sony lens which defeats the purpose of buying a Nikon in the first place. Also, Canon has a better image according to him..... I'm :dunno: Any body out there elucidate?
Guys at these shops like to push Canon because the profit margin is way higher. Same thing happened when I wanted to buy a Panasonic DV camera. He tried to convince me that Canon was better but I managed to convince him otherwise. Then he didn't seem too happy that I'm sticking to my original choice.

The sales people can say anything they want.. Most of them know nuts about the products they are selling. So I won't be surprised that you probably heard correctly because he doesn't know what he's saying in the first place. So usually if I buy from these places, it's probably I want to pay by 0% installment or it's an offer which the usual places like Alan Photo etc cannot beat.

When it comes to noise and colour accuracy, CCD is still better than CMOS. The early CMOS sensors have a temperature stability problem but now it has matured because there are correction circuitry built in.

so parisilk has the best px at the moment :bsmilie:
keep it up...maybe can organise a mass purchase for more discount

Actually maybe u should consider the range of lenses a camera has to offer. Sony currently may have good lenses in the future from zeiss but currently dollar for dollar they are the most expensive on the market and not many to go for as well. Your best bet is probably stick with Canon or Nikon. :) BTW all those installments are with all banks or just one bank.

Hmm most of them unless mentioned can take nearly all banks. Parisilk has told me that they take UOB and DBS only but waiting for word from their HQ.

Anyway as for now, I'm stuck on the D80.:)

but if MScolor with 5% GST willl be 2047.5S$...still 97.5 S$ diff. unless mscolor is 1950S$wgst.

Thanks mate.

CMOS is actually an older technology...just that at the early stage of development, it could not compare to quality of CCDs in terms of noise and colour...nowadays, there is not much seperating the quality and colour of either chip...go for the camera that feels right in your hands in terms of handling, build quality, intuitive usage and layout :)
