Post your 'Before' & 'After' Post Processing pictures

This is stunning

Are these taken from 2 separate photos ? Is it possible to take a single photo in RAW and generate 2 files with different exposure - e.g -1 & +1. And recover from Highlight & Shadow details from layering and selective masking from 2 different exposure ?

Thanks !
It might be possible, but you'd have to face a lot more noise, since noise usually occurs in the shadows. The DR might not be wide enough. So it's better to do it via 2 separate exposures. :)

Hihi ,

thanks !! :D This is a good thread to pick up PP advices, going to be real hard to learn on my own

Below is a comparison of the before and after processing done on CaptureNX2 software.

Might have missed out one brighter exposure but anyway..

What I did:
was in the phase of experimenting manual HDR vs HDR softwares..while I don't like the overcooked looks of most HDRs, this one was done using photomatix.

1)photo corrections done and imported into photomatix and used exposure fusion.
2)layed over base exposure in photoshop to bring back some realism
2.5)healing away the hot lights reflected in the photos since this was shot through the glass
3)selective curves using luminosity masks
4)LAB colour enhancements since the colours weren't strong that day
5)merging all and duplicate to create overlay layer. reduction of opacity of overlay layer + manual brushing of layer mask to reveal foreground and plane
6)Minor tweaks to curves
7)hi-pass sharpening

oh and, slight crops

Today, i would have done it differently, but I doubt I want to waste time DI and rather go out shoot new things :bsmilie:

I dont know what Ive been shooting lately and have not been motivated as not much improvement. But seeing all your before and after photos really make me wanna learn more on post processing. Thanks for sharing guys. Maybe a little write up on what was the thought process when making the photos look the way they do ? Thanks~
