[ Post Event ] Your thoughts on the E-PL1

No idea yet, I didn't hear whether is it kit or what, but most likely kit with 14-42 since USA Price convert around 800 plus, than add GST etc bla bla bla, should be less than 1k,can check at IT Fair I guess

will definitely go check out the shops as well as the IT show.... thanks!

I finally managed to test an EP-2 today. I must say that I'm very impressed with the EVF and especially the high eyepoint of the EVF which is a boon for a spectacled person :)

I did not expect to be so impressed with the EVF as I set my standards for SLR viewfinders pretty high (E.g Nikon FE, F4, F90) but I enjoyed using the EVF a lot, more so than the G1's (prob due to the higher eyepoint).

For those who tried fitting the EVF onto the E-PL1, was there any difference in performance? E.g. more laggy refresh rates compared to the EVF on the EP2?

That was the main reason why I went to the preview. I did test the EVF on the e-pl1. It was v v laggy when using the zoom 14-42. I asked the oly rep and he said it may need some software tuning. I was not impressed that is why I will wait to see the final product before deciding. If it is still laggy I will get the ep-2.

Did anyone check to confirm the filters found in EP-2 is also available on this E-PL1? is it all the filters or some if some which ones?

Hi Kingpin, I asked around the dpreview forums, seems that now no lag, at least according to this owner who has an EP-2 and E-PL1. Link as follows: http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1041&message=34652228

Oh this guy did a silent 3 min overview of the E-PL1 (youtube link below). I think it gives a good overview on the ergonomics and a little preview on the AF. Also, is there a permanent focus box displayed now or was that something that could be set in settings for all the other EP models?

E-PL1 only got 6 art filters

E-P1- Pop Art, Soft Focus, Pale & Light Tone, Light Tone, Grainy Film, Pinhole

E-P2- - Pop Art, Soft Focus, Pale & Light Tone, Light Tone, Grainy Film, Pinhole, Diorama, Cross Process

E-PL1- Pop Art, Soft Focus, Grainy Film, Pin Hole, Diorama, Gentle Sepia

I went to Courts to try out the EVF on the E-P2. The last EVF I tried was my old FZ7, well, the E-P2's EVF of course is much much better.

My question is, can we select a focus point instead of relying on the camera to choose. The salesman said it can't and not even on normal DSLR

So can or not, if not then how does one compose our photo??

In times like this,I will say something my mother always tell me, "Go jiat sai" :bsmilie:
You can choose the focus point manually, like all DSLRs:sweatsm:

THe Olympus rep mentioned as early as March 1 (today). But give them shops stock clearing time, maybe by this week.

Am still undecided if should switch from GF1 to EPL1 because of the inbody IS and retro styling.

But i’m still abit uncertain because I rather like control dial settings than D-pad :(

Oh I just received the Olympus Mailer.

Probably means it’s in stores now!

Lousy salesman, LOL, can lah can lah :bsmilie::bsmilie:

Anything more than $900 is not worth it for E-PL1 with pancake lens, doesnt make sense for them to sell at 1K, will scare off the P&S consumers :think:
I predict $899, lol
