The way this flash pops up is very cool. You can also tilt it 90 degrees - just don't expect too much as its not very powerful.

when I saw Mojims pictures,I almost literally said "OH MY GOD!!!MY EYES!!!THEY BURN!!!!" because the flash too bright XD

the only time I will use the E-PL1 and bounce is when I'm a room, hahaha

thanks for joining us at the preview session, hope that those of you who attended had a good amount of time with the E-PL1. for the record, I am not working for Olympus.

those who are are considering the the E-PL1 as a 2nd camera or even as your main camera, do try to have an open mind about micro-4/3s offerings on the market.

the E-PL1 is an entry level camera, so if you are evaluating this like a Dslr where AF speed and direct controls are concerned, you're out of luck. this camera is designed for compact pns upgraders who want better images in a camera without a large increase in size and weight, yet this camera is capable to grow with you on your photographic journey. besides, you will never need to buy a backpack just to bring this around.

for those of you comparing this to the GF1 (which i own). a few key points about the E-PL1

E-PL1 advantages over GF1
1. in body IS
2. better JPGs
3. very reliable AWB
4. slightly more powerful flash (that can be bounced)
5. access to VF2 EVF
6. no battery 'chip' lock that may void your warranty when circumvented
7. good ISO800 to 1600 JPGs
8. full customization of settings can be unlocked
9. price
10. international warranty

GF1 advantages over E-PL1
1. 20mm/f1.7 comes bundled
2. high spec-ed LCD
3. faster AF
4. AF works well in low light
5. easer menu navigation

So what lens are they going to bundle with? 17mm or 9-18 mm lens? :what::what:

K lah, maybe shld have set the FL-50R (the one on my hand) to EV -2.0 so that it looks more realistic...

Anyway, my point is, this new PEN has the Wireless Flash feature which allows me to set up creative lighting, just as I'm able to do with my regular Four Thirds DSLR.

The other feature which I find quite interesting is the Live Guide mode, which although may not be useful for those of you who are used to A,S or M modes, will definitely be useful for beginners who may not be familiar with DSLR terms. I, for one, thinks the E-PL1 is a great large-sensor PnS camera for those moments when you don't feel like lugging a pro-DSLR along. :D

So what lens are they going to bundle with? 17mm or 9-18 mm lens? :what::what:

I reckon they would have 3 bundles:

1. 14-42mm
2. 17mm
3. 14-42mm + 40-150mm (regular 4/3) + MMF-2 (Plastic r4/3->m4/3 adapter)

One of the Olympus personnel also mentioned that the last bundle would be just body alone with no lens.

And there seems to be 4 colours for the SG market, black, champagne gold, silver and blue. (If I recalled correctly)

No lah, they already mentioned they are not releasing the blue model here in SG. In fact, I've pleaded for them to bring the red model...

I actually prefer the feel of the PL1 vs the P1 and P2!

No white ones?

Did anyone try the guides to see how easy it was for a new user to adjust settings? They look good in stills but I just wonder if they're more annoying than helpful.

I've tried it,seems good in my opinion, for newbies

There is, but it's similar to the white E-P1 colour scheme (which I dun really like )

So u saw the white one in the metal?

It looks good on my computer screen and I downloaded it to be my hp wall paper :bsmilie:

If you mean whether I've seen it in the plastic, then yes. There was one of each available colour during the event. ;)

Does anyone know if the wireless flash controls on the E-PL1 are only for TTL or also Manual flash modes?

Wah that's nice! The online manual is very skimpy it just says that there is TTL-wireless.

Any chance you tried to see if FP sync is available? Maybe this can be a mini-strobist cam :)
