[ Post Event ] Your thoughts on the E-PL1

I love the pics you guys took so far...Couple weeks ago, I picked up an e-pl1 w 14-42 and 1 week later I bought the Pan 4/3 to M4/3 adptr and the Zuiko 40-150 f 3.5- 4.5...along with 2 spare batteries...

I am especially impressed with the picture quality of the JPG's straight from the camera...I am not really a fan of auto focus in small cameras but so far, in most lighting conditions, mine works pretty well...It took me a while to get used to punching in the controls to get it into manual focus with the auto lenses...I will soon remedy that when I get some manual focus glass mounted on it....being a studio and strobe nut, I especially like the fact that you can manually control the on board flash and run it at 1/64 pwr (with no preflash) to trigger optically some of my Vivitar and Sunpak slave strobes...It even works just fine with my older Balcar A1200 pwr packs that have the built in optical sensor's...

I plan to get the following glass as they become available: Samyang 85 1.4 in 4/3 mt...Samyang 8mm fisheye in 4/3 mt...Sigma 150 f2.8 macro....and a good wide angle ( brand to be determined) ( maybe Pany wide zoom)....

I'm not replacing my tried and true extensive Nikon system but this mini set will see a lot more travel as it's definately lighter and more compact...Now if I could just sell off some of my excess studio flash equipment so that I can get an elinchrom quadra set or two!!!

If you want to see my M4/3rds set so far, I have a couple of entries on my blog...

hello fellow shooters! just wanna know whether the silver colour of e-pl1 is the same as the champagne gold?or are they different?

Was thinking of getting the EPL1 for a while..

Those who use EPL1 with the 20mm 1.7 panny lens for bokeh in bright daylight... would the shutter 1/2000 be an issue?

In GF1, the shutter used is 1/2500- 1/3200 in bright daylight shooting - with aperture priority f1.7.
I'm thinking the EPL1 would stop down F4-F5.6. Bokeh would be affected?

Some forum I wrote to suggest ND filters...

There are only 3 colours in Singapore, champagne gold, black and white, though the champagne gold looks like silver, there is a fine difference

:angry:d***, should have bought it from the other shop.was quoted $25 cheaper by this shop but they only left with silver colour.wanted the champagne gold, end up buying from another shop which costs more. today got to know that it is the same colour.

Then get one colour with the kit lens and another coloured body only :bsmilie:

Finally got it! After scouring what feels like the whole of singapore, i finally got the white E-PL1 dual lens kit from the airport! About $20 more expensive than in town but they threw in a smart looking Olympus pseudo leather bag. Couldn't find the bag in any other shop.

Nope, trust me,there's only 3 colours and silver is not one of them, there's a blue on the B&S but as that guy said,he bought it from America:bsmilie:

Quick question (instead of starting another thread).

I believe the onboard flash can control up to 3 flashes? What kind of flashes are these? Must they be Olympus or can they be 3rd party? Or even my canon 580exII and YongNuo YN460?

the wireless flash commander can control these flashes

Olympus - FL50R and FL36R

Metz - MZ 48AF-1 and MZ 58AF-1

No issue to me, but that is because I have all the ND filters / step-up adapters I need. For those who don't, it can be an issue as it is not easy to find the exact 46mm ND filter locally, and the good ones are expensive.

Next best thing is step-up rings to the more common 52mm. For the 20mm, you must have a 46mm UV filter on before you can add a step-up ring. This is because the lens retraction will be affected. Having a 46mm UV filter on gives enough clearance to mount a step-up ring.

Anyway, even with 1/4000 shutter speed, I still need an ND filter, especially since I spot meter 98% of the time, and usually with f/1.4 lens. So the issue of 1/2000 is overblown for me. I'd like 1/16000.

.

like what Clubgrit already said, use ND filters, in the past, photographers max only 1/1000 or even 1/500 or a sec, no issue to them, lenses smallest aperture f/16 only, don't see this as a big issue, ISO 100 at f/16 the other day I was shooting in bright daylight with my E-3 no big deal with panning, but I used 2 GND filters I borrowed from headfonz, invert them to make a ND filter and shot f/11 at 1/60? Around there? I still get my panned shots, just my contribution of what I do

Yep.. I'm salivating for the EPL1.
I did a color compare last weekend at pierce Reservoir... My wife's Canon S90 colour is more punchy than my GF1 and Canon G10. And that is troubling... But I like the GF1 controls..

Good jpeg would save a lot time doing colour correction....

Is there anyone here who sold their ep2 for epl1?
I might be doing just that.
