*cough* *cough* chokes on my own saliva. thks, wiz, i can take the flattery but not sure what eikin will think of this. :bsmilie:

no lah, please lah, don't embarass me.

:bsmilie:

just practise more and you'll get use to macro shooting after a while  not bad, but like KK said can go with bigger aperture for smaller DOF ... btw what plant is that? the bud looks scary

I think for fx9 cannot control aperture size, right? What u can do is go as close to the subject as possible for shallower DOF. But, easier said than done, cos the butterfly may be frightened off :)

yah, just found out it hasn't got a 'manual' mode ... can only depend on the macro mode (focussing up to 5cm from subject) ... subjects will be limited, reminds me of the days i was using the reversed 50mm

Many thanks, my Great Teachers!

Yup, my fx9 has no manual control, but still I want to understand this concept of DOF? What does it mean by having a shallower DOF? What does it do? In fact, using my pic as an example, how to tell there is too much DOF or not?

Paiseh, very newbie question I guess, but I want to learn.:)

sup pop! i've just seen your whole series of pictures and judging from the start, it's like you're really having leaps of improvements man! great job.

shallow DOF (depth of field) is setting your aperture wide or bigger so that your background would be blurry giving more focus to the object. i hope i'm right =(. i'm still a newbie without a camera.

hihi big korkors out there. ;p

many thanks for your strong encouragement, koelsch. ok, i think i understand this DOF thing, so basically, shallow DOF means background is blur, and this is needed to keep the focus on the subject in a macro shot.

Depth of Field (DOF) is the part of the image that the eye perceives as in-focus or "sharp".

There are a few factors that affect DOF - Aperture size, distance to the subject and focal length.

http://www.dofmaster.com also has tons of information, and also an online DOF calculator :)

good luck!

thanks, kk. looks like learning about photography is like going back to school, so much theories to read.

actually, my info is reliable one lah, although I myself have not tried. Take the fruits and boil in water, add sugar to taste. The resultant drink looks like ribena. Some markets got sell this fruit.
