[Poll] Which canon lens that you guys regret the most after buying it?

Which canon L lens that you guys regret the most after buying it?

Not sure if this is the right place to ask but... I wonder why 17 55 2.8 is still not fast enough for low light. Cos ive been shooting indoor events as backup shooter with 17 40 to shoot groups. F5.6 and iso 800 B]with flash [/B]on crop body. Slowest on 1/60, it was alright. What im still thinking is what type of photography that needs fast wide angle glass? (indoor sports like martial arts where u cant use flash?) Forgive my ignorance, still upgrading myself.

Flash is the magic word my friend ;p

There are scenarios that flash is either not permitted, or not practical. For that, you will need a very good bright lens + high ISO to get your desired exposure.

U need F2 and below for low light, and type of events would include concerts, stage that cannot use flash.... if they allow DSLR to be brought it........

Sports at night... eg. Soccer, and even if you use flash also not use. U need a very bright lens... and long one.....

F2.8 and below allows you to better isolate the subject to make your photography stand out.....

thanks. how is the performance in low light situation? this lens is a non-IS lens, is that a problem?
sorry to have so many question.

With proper hand holding technique, and bumping of ISO... should be ok without IS....

I think it is better to use a Flash with 17-40, or use a prime lens with aperture F2 or lower without flash....

Thanks for the help guys. In conclusion, know what type of photography u are doing with that lens before u buy it, or bring them out with u or else u will regret wasting money and carry unnecessary weights.

not to flame you but you regret buying that lens because it's not the lens for you and not because it's not performing as you'd expected...

it should be something like, "i regret buying 50L coz it's not sharp wide open & it has focus issue"...

This thread isn't about flaming of any lens . . it's about the photographer 'regretting to buy' a lens for ANY reason . . even if the lens is great! :)

Just curious.... shouldn't there be an option that is no regret..........

Lol no regrets don't poll lor hahaha...

If don't poll, it does not reflect the actual % of people who are happy with their lens purchased.... that's why statically it is required.

No L lens, no regret.

The only regret is not buying early.

I guess if I had to pick one it would be the EFS 60mm. Great lens but I hardly used it. I much prefer the 100 macro. I wasn't sure that there would be much of a market for a 2nd hand 60 macro but luckily I managed to sell it a few months ago at a fair price.

Oooops... I just looked at the poll and realized it is for "L" lenses. I guess the 60 macro doesn't qualify. Oh well.

As far as L lenses are concerned, I have no regrets. They are all good lenses.

lol this poll is not accurate. if i renamed this poll to 'which lens do you own', the results will still be the same with 17-40 taking the lead. being the most popular lens, naturally it will also be labelled as the most regretted lens.

i regret buying 17-55 because it cant go FF.....i promised myself: if i cant sell it, i wont go FF. (hobby only, dont want to be too serious)

other than that it had served me well.....maybe my 17-55 is fated to follow me for life :bsmilie:

how come so many people vote 17-40?

which is FF's sharpest wide angle lens for scenery, if no need F2.8?

on a cropped body,
i don't mind this lens.
but on a full frame, the non center image of mine simply can't make it.

This is L samsara. To be released from this L kamma, you just need to buy a supertele or an 85L.

My 70-200 f2.8 IS. Once I got it, I never stopped spending on this damnable hobby.

I hv this lens too and simply no regret.... just regret it cannot be used on full frame.....

I might stay on apsc for a few more years since together with 1022, they are a very powerful pair...

Lol I shd dump my Ls. The top two lenses are the only L I have, ie 17-40 and 70-200 f4 non-IS.
