Plustek opticfilm scanners availability locally

Epson v600 is a flatbed scanner. Its more flexible coz u can scan other stuff besides film. Like a4 stuff.

Plustek is a shoebox scanner u insert film into a slide and pass the slide thru the shoebox. The salesman told me plustek is faster than epson flatbed.

"Faster" has to see how the comparison was done. Plustek 1 round scan 1 frame, for example I assume it takes 10min. V700 1 round scan 1 row frame (6 frames?), takes 30min. If we scan in batch, maybe V700 is faster.

1 frame at 3000 dpi resolution, single pass is about 1 min. You can finish a roll of 36 exposures in under 1 hour.

In any case, I think that if you have a lot of film to process, get low-res scans from some place like triple-D and do selective high-res scans yourself.

Of course, if you also shoot medium format, the flatbed is the best option. Or get something like this -

Not cheap, US$2000.

if plustek can do 36 exposures in less than 1 hour, that is quite good for 400 buck film scanner. that mean its really faster than flatbed

Yes, but you cannot go for a coffee in the meanwhile. So it is more tiring, not suited for more than 1-2 rolls in 1 sitting.

yes I just got my plustek. you are right. doing one frame at a time is slow.

turn of all options in Silverfast except for iSRD and multi-exposure, that should cut down the time.

I gave up on both vuescan and silverfast. I am just scanning with the plustek quickscan now.

Vuescan got strange problem. After scanning once, i need to close and restart before i can scan again. I cannot scan one after another, clicking scan nothing happens.

Silverfast gives my wierd polygons on my pictures. Sometimes the polygons appear as perfect vertical line with shading across the page. But this polygon problem only affects the scanned image, the prescan image is fine.

I've got no problem with my Silverfast AI. The only problem is the software is too complex to use...I'm just using the basic scans...need to really absorb how to use the software..Am on Mac OS though...

There is a download on the plustek website that updates the firmware, and maybe related to what you are seeing.

please can u let me have this link? I can find driver downloads but there is no firmware update

As for the polygons...i think i encounter before...just switch off the iSRD...it'll be fine...this happens when I scans B&W films that I processed myself...I didnt encounter this problem when scanning normal color negatives processed at shops. I can't figure out whats the issue though, but turning off the doesn't do much difference to the image quality. I seriously think it has all got to do with the iSRD..maybe you can read up on it. As for me, I just can't be bothered...hahahhahaha

Thanks. I fixed my silverfast problem by deleting the preferences file and starting afresh. No vertical lines now. You i right i do get polygons when i use iSRD. Took 1 entire day to test this out. (i installed on both mac and pc boxes to verify whether it was hardware or software caused)

Now my silverfast appears to work ok.

Have not fixed vuescan. Vuescan is very unstable with plustek 7600i. I need to quit and restart vuescan before it will scan. Anybody successfully using vuescan with plustek?

Hi, what do you mean by 'polygons'? I am using this same scanner too. Thanks alot.

You can still keep SRD on, and that helps with dust and scratches. This is a software based option, and less effective than iSRD.

iSRD does not work for b&w films, due to the silver present. Thats what I figured out.

Polygons are 3d shapes that appear on the picture sometimes when I use iSRD on B&W. You can't miss it. Its basically a big ugly shape.

It is confirmed that iSRD does not work with B&W.

iSRD only works for slides and color negatives.

Okay, I read somewhere that some antivirus programs block the memory that Vuescan is trying to access, leading to the problem that Vuescan is either unstable or only can prescan (cannot do proper full scan). This is precisely my problem that I have to quit and restart Vuescan in order to scan a second time.

I am using avast

Let me know your experience with Vuescan. I have not used it, but could switch to it if there are advantages.

After some time of using the scanner...I'm now experiencing the reddish band issue.

Uninstalled the old version and installed the one on their website.
Deleted preference files.

Still to no avail.Patch is for MAC only but I'm using windows 7. How?
