First of all,Pls think again of purchasing a D60.Alot of disadvantages for it.
-IQ is not rather better than D40,even the same. Why don't get a D40 and save some $ for other stuff?
-Compatibility of D60 is not really good.no built-in motor. It just works great for AFS lens which is extremely expensive..
,,blah.blah...

I suggest you to get a D40,and save some $ to get a 18-200VR,they are a good couple.
Good luck:thumbsup:

hahaha don't be afraid! I'm no professional either!
If I can share the basic understanding that I know, it reinforces it in my mind as well.
Who knows? You'll probably teach me a thing or 2 as well!

AF-S lens is getting cheaper for the d40/60 crowd, just look at the new AF-S 35mm f1.8 prime.
consumer AF-S lens will eventually get cheaper for entry body users so long as nikon continue to produce models like the d60.
for the amount of money spend on the AF-S 18-200mm VR, i rather spend it on the sigma 30mm f1.4 HSM.

Hi, I understand D40/D40x/D60 only works with the AF-S n AF-I series lens to achieve autofocus. Will there be difficulty buying new lens of these 2 series now or in the coming near future? Also, is anywhere still selling new D40/D40x and what's e approx price?

With the amount of AF-S and HSM lenses available (not to mention future offerings from Tokina), you'll likely run out of needs (or money) before motorised lens cease to exist. For those who don't have diverse and dedicated interests in sports, portrait, or macro etc, one or two lenses is actually enough to grow your interest. Besides, D40/x/60 look unbalanced with huge lenses!

Since D60 is selling in the $850 region, I believe the D40 is about $600, if you can still find them.

i understand that D40 is already not in production. shld i get a 2nd hand D40 instead?
or any other suggestion?
also heard rumours that nikon gonna release new entry model @ similar price range soon.
anyone can confirm this?

A bit hard to compare 18-200mm VR and 30mm f1.4 leh. They're different types of lenses.
That's like saying: For the money I'd spend on sharks fin soup, I'd rather eat spaghetti instead.

I think more and more new lenses are AF-S, although normal AF lenses would probably still be produced.

Most of the existing D40s are probably sold already. Have to be rather lucky to find one brand new! I'm sure SOMEWHERE out there in this big planet, you'd be able to...! :)

D60 still quite new. But then again, I wouldn't be surprised...
What would the new model be called...? D70? :bsmilie:
