Hi guys!

I have been considering on getting either a D40 or D40x... after reading all the recommendations, seems like D40 is the one to go for...saving the extra $200 for a flash or top up a little for a 55-200 lens. Now my problem is where to get it. definitely simlim/funan offers attractive prices as much as -$100 compared to HN/Courts/Best. But rite now, HN @ Parkway Parade is having promo, if purchase with ABN Amro, free additional 2 yrs extended warranty. This is what attracted my attention. Question now is, does dslr tends to break easily? is the 2 yrs ext warranty worth it to get from HN ($998)? i know for electrical items, its either it breaks right away in the 1st year, or never at all. Anyone has any encounters with the d40 breaking down so far? or for that matter, dslr?

My D40 was used heavily for events. So far, no breakage. The only time anything happened was when it dropped from waist height onto concrete and the top panel near the flash broke. Still, it was usable, and there were no light leaks.

The price difference between the D40/D40X is not that great when you buy outside the chain stores. Current cash prices are about $850/970 (+/-), a difference of $120, for the non VR kit lens and $1030/1080 (+/-), for the VR kit lens, a difference of $50.

The extended warranty is good for comfort but its for you to decide if you want to pay the additional $148 or thereabouts for this comfort. You can search the Nikon forums - I am not sure that there are many instances of equipment breakdowns. The net reviews of the D40/X also seem to indicate that the build quality is better than comparably priced competitors.

Thanks chanjyj and nicsnap for your input. finally got my d40 yesterday evening!!!!! charged up the battery yest nite, jus nice for this morning! couldnt wait and snapped my 1st dslr pics this morning of me wife and dotter!!! cool!!! :thumbsup:now will be all the reading and practicing... shud be needing lotsa advise! bros and sis... duo duo zhi jiao! :cheers:
