It's me again, i went through this forum and read all the threads.
come to conclusion that i can buy From one of the shop MS,AP,CP,John 3.16,Orient photo.
then i put a inquiry to all the shops, then i found Orient photo quoting me the cheap price.
this is the list(including GST).
Nikon D40 kit S$780
NIkon D40X kit S$970
Canon 400D kit S$1000

My mind is changing towards canon 400D now . since it's price almost same as Nikon D40X kit.
Any Final advice, before i go to Orient and buy the 400Dkit.

You should check if OP is offering local warranty or shop (grey) sets. Do a search on OP for more information.

P.S: nikon for life!!!so... even it is cheap and many free gift!!.. it won't change my love for nikon.. haha..

I strongly suggest you avoid bally photo. I have personally seen them con tourists of their money in front of my face. Who knows what they might do to locals?

I've been following this thread - may I just say that ANY of the
cameras you're considering can produce stunningly good ... OR
stunningly bad ... pictures!!! As I've recommended to friends
and other newbies (and might I add without getting accusing
fingers pointed at me later!!!) give the modest D40 (no "X") a
serious consideration, and put a bit of cash saved on the
little SB400 flash unit!

Take a look at the "D40" tag on flickr.com, and any of
several reviews of the camera, e.g. http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/recommended-cameras.htm
to have different ideas of just what this "low-end" camera
can do! Even if you some day outgrow the camera, you'll
have developed good skills and get a feel and instinct for
what you'd like to hold and to do with your camera. And
all for a relatively low price.

As to where to get it from ... somebody did point out that
a good relationship with the shop folks helps, and this
immediately rules out the large department stores.
This is only a PERSONAL opinion - I'm happy with the
folks at Orient Photo having got a fair bit of equipment
from them with excellent, friendly advice - just a warning,
though: do NOT come across as a know-it-all, as it turns
them off, and you're then on your own, and become
basically "just A customer". Be frank, ask about warranty
matters, and "what happens if ...", and only buy if your
instinct says "Ok" and you're comfortable. Well, isn't this
basically the advice for ANY shop?! BEST OF LUCK, and
Merry Christmas!

Hi Jasan,

Please consider carefully between 400D or D40X :think: as it belongs to 2 different camps and if you want to change camp next time, it would be a hassle with all the lenses you would already have. Just my 2c.

I've last checked for a friend the price of a D40X and was quoted $950 incl tax from LORDS. D40 @ $800+. You might want to check it out. I personally like to go lords for NIKON stuffs.

Not sure if you considered these before, but:

- Do you need the extra 4MP of the D40X? You are printing more than 18x12? You crop severely?

Might be better to save the extra and spend on a good lens. =) (The kit is good, very good, but you need something for low light, too)
